Harvest festival at the Enzweiler daycare center: children celebrate their potato transformation!
The potato harvest was recently celebrated at the Enzweiler daycare center - an event that not only brought a lot of joy to the children, but also provided them with a lot of interesting information about gardening. In the spring, the little gardeners eagerly planted potatoes in their planting bed and watched for several weeks how the plants grew and thrived. Caring for the potato plants included not only regular watering but also weeding. “The children learned where the potatoes come from and how long it takes to harvest,” explains the head of the facility, Sabrina Becker.
When the leaves finally began to brown, the longed-for moment had come and the children were allowed to reap their harvest. The anticipation of cooking a dish together from the freshly harvested potatoes was great. But that wasn't all: there was also a mirabelle plum harvest, which was particularly bountiful. The sweet fruits were eaten fresh, made into cakes and cooked into delicious jam.
Real-life education in the garden
The activities surrounding the harvest did not only include collecting the fruits. The children worked intensively on the topics of weighing, measuring, kneading and cooking. Each child was able to record their great cooking and baking results in a personal educational documentation folder. “It’s fantastic to see how much fun the children have with the garden activities,” continued Becker. “We have created a small oasis here with various fruit trees and bushes that enrich learning.”
The daycare concept is based on a holistic education in which practical experience and theoretical knowledge go hand in hand. The teachers and children always benefit from the generous and active support from the daycare center's caretakers.
Diverse offerings in kindergarten
The daycare activities are part of a larger plan that integrates targeted educational offerings. In the world of kindergarten education, empathy, observation skills and specialist knowledge are always in the foreground. These factors have a significant influence on which educational offerings are selected for the children. These are not only planned in writing, but also spontaneously in practice in order to meet the needs of the children.
Educators have access to a rich pool of ideas for different areas of education, from exercise to language education to scientific learning. Your own experiences in the garden always flow into the concepts and promote a creative and playful engagement with the environment. In this way, Kita Enzweiler always keeps its finger on the pulse and works hard to ensure that the children learn in an environment that not only educates them, but also inspires them. A big thank you goes to everyone who was involved in these activities - especially to the caretakers, without whose support many projects would not have been possible.
For everyone who deals with the topics surrounding technology and cable connections, let it be said: Even if children explore the world of gardening, adults can use multiple monitors in Windows 10 and Windows 11 on [Microsoft Learn how to adjust your display settings.
Overall, the potato harvest at the Enzweiler daycare center shows that learning in nature is not only educational, but also a great pleasure for young and old. The next harvest is certainly already in the starting blocks!
