From wild boar to family member: Friedrich celebrates his birthday!
In Birkenfeld, a small community in the Enz district, a very special wild boar is causing a sensation: Friedrich, a guy weighing over 100 kilos, melts the heart of his foster father, Dennis Renschler, with his engaging manners and impressive learning ability. For the past two years, the 34-year-old carpenter and passionate hunter has been caring for the popular boar, who came to him from a wildlife sanctuary in Pforzheim because he was unable to survive in the wild.
As Dennis Renschler tells it, Friedrich was left behind by his mother when he was just four days old. A family discovered him sleeping in a hole and informed Dennis, who spontaneously agreed to raise the little newcomer. With a lot of passion, he fed Friedrich lamb's milk from the bottle every two hours and gave him commands that the boar now knows like an old dog. Friedrich, who is also known by the nickname “Hannibal” or “Schnitzel”, quickly got used to people and can therefore no longer be released into the wild because he loves being close to people. SWR reports that...
A species-appropriate home
Friedrich is by no means limited to a dreary existence. His enclosure includes a small hut, a shelter, feeding tires and large tree trunks where he can play and let off steam. Dennis has also set up a small swimming pool in his enclosure, where Friedrich likes to splash around on hot days. Daily treats such as 20 apples, stale bread and wet dog food in the evening sweeten his life as he enjoys being in a loving home.
To the delight of Dennis and his wife Tanja, Friedrich's birthday is celebrated in style every year. With a fruit cake decorated with chocolate cream and numerous guests, including friends and family members, the day becomes a real celebration. These celebrations also enriched the Renschlers' social life and show the special place that Friedrich holds in their family. BNN reports that…
Commitment to nature
But Dennis Renschler is not only a loving animal owner, but also an active hunter who does voluntary work. He saves fawns in May and June. Using drones and thermal imaging cameras, he checks the fields to ensure that the small animals are protected from the tractors' powerful mowers. His tireless efforts show how important it is to him to treat wild animals with respect and that, despite his passion for hunting, he has a good knack for nature conservation. Because even if Friedrich avoids hunting and avoids the scent of his killed counterparts, Dennis always makes sure that he is doing well and is happy in his little world.
In the small community of Birkenfeld, Friedrich has become a local celebrity, and not only his charming personality, but also the special bond between him and Dennis are a pleasant reminder of how important it is to treat animals with love and responsibility. For Dennis and Friedrich, the connection they share is more than just that of a pet and its owner – it is a true example of human-animal friendship at its finest.
