Circus leisure time in Idar-Oberstein: An adventure for 80 young talents!
In the heart of Idar-Oberstein, the city youth welfare office's circus camp ensures that children's eyes shine and they provide exciting experiences. The project week, which takes place in the picturesque Tiefensteiner Staden, is already considered a highlight of the summer by the enthusiastic participants. On August 14, 2025, Mayor Frank Frühauf visited the circus leisure time together with Torsten Rothfuchs from Kreissparkasse Birkenfeld and Celine Roes and was impressed by the commitment that goes on here.
The circus leisure time is part of the “Where to go on vacation?” program, which is very popular. The places are filled quickly, and not without reason: in workshops, the children can learn new things, overcome their personal limitations and develop creatively. Organizers like Sabine Moser and Sebastian Herzig emphasize the need for an appealing program and qualified support from a committed team.
A strong team and support from the Kreissparkasse
With around 80 children, a total of 22 carers and seven educational specialists are on duty, including five carers who were once participants in the circus camp themselves. The team's commitment was praised by Mayor Frühauf, who thanked them for creating a platform in which children can discover their talents.
The support from Kreissparkasse Birkenfeld is remarkable. This year the funding amounts to 2,600 euros as well as the provision of drinking bottles for the children. Torsten Rothfuchs emphasizes the importance of such projects for the development of children and young people and is working with his team on further support options.
Circus as creative development
But what makes circus leisure so special? According to the Circus Soluna website, the circus is an excellent platform for artistic inspiration and individual development. Children are encouraged to actively participate and discover their own abilities. Whether through acrobatics, juggling or other circus arts, the participatory circus in Idar-Oberstein offers a varied offering for the young generation.
The organization of such a project circus is carefully planned so that amateurs can learn the basics of circus art under the professional guidance of artists. At the end of the project week there is an exciting performance that gives the children the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and delight the audience.
Overall, the circus leisure time is an innovative and exciting project that not only brings joy to the children, but also promotes social skills such as a sense of responsibility and the ability to work in a team.
