In recent weeks, bird flu, also known as avian influenza, has caused excitement in the Donnersberg district. As the Rhine Palatinate Reportedly, cases of the virus have recently been detected in several cranes found in the region. In particular, a crane that was discovered in the Höringer district on October 24th alerted the health authorities.
According to current information, other infected cranes have also been discovered in Imsbach and Kalkofen. However, the test results of two other birds are still pending. Fortunately, the domestic poultry population in the district has not been affected so far, which gives hope to the affected breeders. However, the obligation to keep domestic poultry and captive birds in stables remains.
Strict security measures
In order to contain the spread of the virus, safety measures must be strictly adhered to. It is mandatory that poultry and other birds are only kept in closed stables. Exceptions only apply to special devices with a secured cover and side limits. Bird exhibitions as well as markets or exchanges are also prohibited, even if they have already been approved.
The veterinary office also requires that people only enter stables wearing protective clothing and that food, bedding and equipment are protected from contact with wild birds. Another important point is that water for the drinking troughs must be inaccessible to wild birds.
