60 years of strong partnership: Celebration for the Luftwaffe in Heideck

Last Saturday a very special anniversary was celebrated in Heideck: The sponsorship between the city and the 7th company of the Air Force Training Battalion (LwAusbBtl) is 60 years old. This long-standing connection, which has existed since 1965 and was officially sealed at the local festival, shows how good the relationship is between the city and the soldiers. At this ceremony, Minister of State Dr. Florian Herrmann, in the presence of Lieutenant Colonel Christian Zerau, presented a banner on behalf of the Bavarian Prime Minister Dr. Markus Söder.

The LwAusbBtl, which is based in Germersheim, is an important training facility of the German Air Force and prepares soldiers for their service in comprehensive basic training. This training usually lasts three months and takes place in both Germersheim and Roth, where the 7th and 8th companies are stationed. According to information from Wikipedia, the training content has evolved over the years, and the battalion now conducts centralized and course-based pre-deployment training.

Colorful program for the anniversary

The anniversary celebration in Heideck featured a diverse program that included both technology and discussion stations. An Apache attack helicopter from the US armed forces and an Air Force helicopter attracted particular attention. These impressive machines attracted many visitors and offered a look behind the scenes of Air Force training. The program was supplemented by weapons shows and career advice, which gave interested guests an insight into the wide range of opportunities in the Bundeswehr.

The close cooperation between the Bundeswehr and the emergency services organizations was also recognized. The police, fire brigade and the technical relief organization were on site and showed a strong commitment to the community. In order to further strengthen the friendly bond, Mayor Ralf Beyer presented the sponsoring company with a place-name sign. This symbolic act represents the trusting relationship that has developed over the past decades.

A look at training

Over time, the Air Force Training Battalion has developed into a central part of training within the Air Force. It not only looks after Air Force soldiers, but also members of other military organizational areas, provided capacity is available. Since compulsory military service was suspended in 2011, the LwAusbBtl has been the only remaining battalion in its training area and now carries out basic training and pre-deployment training for enlisted men and officer candidates. The training includes various modules aimed at crisis management and conflict prevention.

In conclusion, it can be said that the 60th anniversary of this sponsorship is not only a sign of the close connection between the soldiers and the citizens of Heideck, but also underlines the importance of the Luftwaffe for German defense. The day finally came to a pleasant end with a convivial atmosphere in the festival tent.
