Germersheim is looking for helping hands: Become a rickshaw driver for seniors!
Something is happening in Germersheim! The Caritas St. Elisabeth Senior Center has launched a great project: rickshaw rides for senior citizens. Facility manager Wolfgang Grill has high hopes of recruiting many new volunteer rickshaw drivers to make these special trips possible. The premiere took place recently and it was a complete success.
On October 31st, Markus Kropfreiter took over the first rickshaw ride and chauffeured resident Melanie Klein and resident Frank-Michael Thomas. The route led along the picturesque Rhine to the historic brickworks. It is the starting signal for a voluntary project that should not only be fun, but also provide valuable experiences for those involved. “We hope that many people will decide to support us in this project,” said Grill, expressing his wishes for the future.
A trip for everyone
What exactly are rickshaw rides? They offer a fantastic option for those who enjoy being outdoors but may not be great at walking anymore. These trips are designed for seniors who want to explore the surrounding area together without the inconvenience of long walks. Volunteer drivers take passengers on individual routes to the most beautiful places where they can get some fresh air and enjoy nature.
Tours typically last one to two hours and are designed for up to two people at a time. When traveling, an electric drive not only ensures a pleasant and safe journey, but also a lot of comfort - especially for the passengers. And the best part? The rickshaw rides are free of charge. This initiative not only offers wonderful employment for volunteers, but also great experiences for participants who can regain some quality of life.
Commitment to the community
“It is a project in which you do something good for both the passengers and yourself,” says the facility manager. Get involved – we invite you to become part of this wonderful initiative. Because wherever people come together, there is something big in the air!
Enjoy your free time, spend valuable hours outdoors, and experience unforgettable moments with our older citizens - a win-win situation for everyone involved. A big thank you to everyone who is already involved in the project!
