Germersheim Fortress Festival 2025: Celebrate history up close!

In the fortress town of Germersheim, the anticipation of a very special event is palpable: the 12th Germersheim Fortress Festival will take place from June 27th to 29th, 2025. Organized by the city of Germersheim and numerous associations, this festival is made possible through the committed support of volunteers. It is aimed at citizens and guests from near and far who can look forward to a colorful program. The [Speyer Kurier](https://www.speyer-kurier.de/kuriere/ Veranstaltungs-kurier/artikel/germersheimer-festungsfest-2025) announces that the festival will take place at the old fortress structures and in the impressive backdrop of the city center.

On Friday evening, June 27th, the festival will be officially opened by Mayor Marcus Schaile at the Ludwigstor, one of Germersheim's two historic city gates. This is not just a formal opening, but a beautiful start to the festivities that will last throughout the weekend.

Diverse program

Saturday, June 28th, is all about history. From 10 a.m., visitors will experience a historical fortress maneuver that illustrates life around 1900 in the “Fronte Lamotte” city park. In addition, the festival starts at 12 p.m. with live music and a colorful stage program that can be found both in the city park and at other fortress locations. A special highlight is the U.S. Car and Vintage Car Show, which can be admired in the Rhine foothills on both days.

Sunday, June 29th, begins with an ecumenical service at 11 a.m., which is being co-organized for the first time by the Interkultur e.V. association. The colorful stage and family program ensures that there is something for every age group. Between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., the city center and the retail park will also be open for shopping on Sunday. The crowning conclusion is a brilliant musical fireworks display at 10:30 p.m. in the “Fronte Lamotte” city park – a beautiful sight above the fortresses.

A festival with history

This festival not only has an entertaining character, but also ties in with the historical significance of the city. The former fortress belt around the city center has been extensively renovated in recent years, which brings out the historically valuable buildings even more. The German Society for Historical Uniform Studies (DGHU e.V.), which organizes the historical fortress maneuvers, places particular emphasis on the vividness of fortress life. The connection to the historic US armed forces is taken into account here, which gives the festival a further cultural depth. The germersheim.eu emphasizes that the festival appeals to a broad audience and responds to the various interests of visitors.

For anyone interested, a detailed program will be available online at www.germersheim.eu and as a printed flyer at well-known display locations. In addition, the city has already announced the city anniversary “750 years of city rights” for 2026, which will be celebrated with a large parade under the motto “Germersheim through the ages”. However, there will be no historical parade this year as preparations for the anniversary are already in full swing.

So be there and experience a festival full of history, music and community in the beautiful fortress town of Germersheim!
