Kaiserslautern celebrates 8 years of VRNnextbike: 100 free minutes wait!
The regional rental bike system VRNnextbike is being celebrated again in the heart of Kaiserslautern. What is there to cheer about? April 2025 marks the tenth anniversary of this popular bike sharing system, which has enlivened the streets and bike paths since 2015. Over 2,500 bicycles, including around 30 cargo bikes, and more than 450 stations in over 20 municipalities are available, and fortunately not just in Kaiserslautern. Together with the city, Alderman Manuel Steinbrenner is pleased with the success that this system is bringing to cycling in the region.
An impressive number of over 1.4 million trips were recorded in 2024 alone. The system has already completed around six million journeys since its launch – no small achievement! Details about the campaign and everything else are on the website vrnnextbike.de to find.

Within the entire Rhine-Neckar Transport Association (VRN), VRNnextbike is a charming addition to local public transport, which can be found primarily at bus and train stops. Interested cycling enthusiasts can register once online, which can be easily done via the app or the hotline. After paying a starting credit of 1.00 euros you can get started!

With the monthly tariff you even get the first 30 minutes free! A small additional bonus for users of VRN half-yearly and annual tickets as well as stadtmobil customers is also on offer.
Bicycle rental: A future project
The Federal Ministry of Transport has supported such innovative rental bike projects - and not without reason! They are part of the long-term plans for sustainable mobility in cities. According to a report by the Federal Institute for Building, Urban and Spatial Research (BBSR) Innovative public bike rental systems not only help reduce traffic congestion, but also help reduce CO2 emissions.
The positive effects are clearly noticeable: people like to use bicycles, which are very popular as a fast, flexible and environmentally friendly means of transport. Television and the media have already reported on these developments, which show that renting bikes is becoming a growing trend.
In summary, it can be said that VRNnextbike is an integral part of the mobility offerings in Kaiserslautern and provides many good reasons to get on your bike!
