Truck fire on the A61: Fire brigade saves from a major accident!
An exciting evening on the Autobahn 61 towards Koblenz took a dramatic turn yesterday around 9 p.m. The Bergheim fire department was alerted after a fire was reported on a truck between the Bergheim and Bergheim-Süd junctions. According to ksta.de, the truck was found about 500 meters behind the exit. The driver had already tried to contain the fire on the rear axle with a powder extinguisher, which he succeeded in doing - this shows how important it is to act quickly.
The temperatures in the affected brake system were over 100 degrees Celsius, which prompted the emergency services to cool the hot brake with a jet pipe. The operation was organized with around 30 firefighters from the Bergheim, Glesch/Paffendorf units and the full-time police station, under the direction of fire chief Ulrich Braun. Even though the right of two lanes had to be closed while the fire was extinguishing the fire, fortunately there were no injuries. The operation ended around 10 p.m. and the truck was taken to a parking lot at the Kerpen motorway junction under police escort.

The fire department even found that the extinguishing and cordoning measures could be lifted after just about an hour. This operation was also accompanied by the Bergheim, Glesch/Paffendorf units and the full-time guard under the direction of fire chief Jörg Bodewig. The cause of the fire and the amount of damage were not disclosed.
The importance of fire department statistics
This shows once again how important the work of the fire brigade is and how quickly it can happen in critical situations. Even if the fire department in Bergheim is well positioned, we should all keep an eye on safety on the roads and when handling dangerous materials. Ultimately, it is up to all of us to avoid dangerous situations and to react quickly in an emergency.
