New life at the Koblenz Florinsmarkt: boarding house and gastronomy planned!
Something exciting is happening in Koblenz: a new project is being built at Florinsmarkt that could sustainably improve urban structures. After a long period of vacancy, the building complex is now being revitalized with a boarding house with 64 apartments and two restaurants. The city has issued building permits and the plans are taking concrete shape. SWR Aktuell reports that the upcoming renovations include various historical buildings, including the old department store and dance store as well as the Gothic Schöffenhaus and the Bürresheimer Hof.
The Bürresheimer Hof, once a synagogue, offers a special touch. On the ground floor there will be enough space for restaurants, while on the upper part the boarding house will provide accommodation for short and long stays. The gastronomic concepts are already being planned and are intended to offer visitors a special stay. The Rhein-Zeitung highlights that events should even take place in the historic vaults of the Schöffenstubchen.
A new approach to usage
The investor Jan Leis, who has been self-employed since 2008 and was born in Koblenz, took over the shares in the project from Martin Görlitz two years ago. Leis decided to change the original plan to create lecture halls and focus more on living and dining. This new approach could make a decisive contribution to reshaping life on the Florinsmarkt and increasing the attractiveness of the entire region.
The boarding house not only wants to create space for overnight stays, but also scores points with hotel-like services, including a breakfast menu. The master plan for urban development, which serves as a “playbook” for future measures, supports this development by offering a framework for the reuse and renovation of historical buildings.
Sustainable urban development
The redesign of the Florinsmarkt is part of a larger commitment to the city of Koblenz and its infrastructure. The master plan, which was approved by the city council on May 22, 2014, creates the basis for sustainable urban planning, based on the individual concepts that have already been developed. The city wants to respond to the needs of residents and visitors and create a lively place for leisure and cultural activities.
Overall, this project at Florinsmarkt shows how creative ideas and new concepts can end vacancies in the city center. If everything goes according to plan, this historic location will soon once again become a vibrant center of life and gastronomy, with a lot to offer both residents and guests of Koblenz.
