Rübenach primary school: Award for exemplary school sport!
Sport is very important in the heart of Koblenz! On September 21, 2025, the Rübenach primary school received the prestigious award as a “partner school for exercise, games and sport”. This title is awarded to schools that integrate exercise and sport into their educational concept in an exemplary manner. This means that the Rübenach primary school joins an illustrious list of educational institutions that are committed to promoting the joy of exercise and health.
The ceremony for the appointment took place in the school's internal sports hall, which is named after the famous football player Franz Mohrs. A celebratory ceremony was attended by important personalities from the educational and sports landscape, including principal David Janser and deputy principal Annika Löhndorf, as well as Stefan Kölsch, the senior government school director, Monika Sauer, vice president of the LSB Rhineland-Palatinate, and Alexandra Zinndorf, government school councilor. Such diverse representation underlines the importance of sport in school education.
A strong network for sports
The Rübenach primary school maintains close cooperation with numerous sports clubs both in the district and beyond. These partnerships ensure that the school sports offering is constantly expanded and improved. Through a variety of sporting activities, students have the opportunity to promote their talents and develop a healthy lifestyle.
Certification as a “partner school for exercise, play and sport” is a process that has been possible for primary and secondary schools since 2009. The award is awarded for a recognition period of four years, after which an extension is possible. These regulations strengthen the connection between school education and sporting support and help to support the holistic development of young people, as is also explained on the website of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Sports Association - landessportbund.de.
Together for an eventful future
The “Sports Partner Schools” project in Rhineland-Palatinate aims to increase children and young people’s enjoyment of exercise and sporting performance. Schools that are certified as partner schools actively contribute to promoting physical activity in order to strengthen the health of children. This initiative not only represents a commitment to school sport, but also highlights the importance of team spirit and fairness - all values that are learned in sport. More information can be found on the school sports website – schulsport.rlp.de.
With this award, the Rübenach primary school has taken a step in the right direction and shows that it has a good knack for integrating sport into everyday school life. A role model for other schools that are also setting out to motivate children to exercise more and integrate this area into lessons.
