The Edesheim fair was ceremoniously opened on September 5, 2025, and the atmosphere could hardly be better. Palatinate Express reports that the local mayor Christian Kocher and the wine princess Maria Leibel opened the event. Kocher emphasized the importance of the fair for the community and the traditional customs of the region. It was also Kocher’s first self-organized event as local mayor, which made the day all the more important.
However, the preparations were anything but easy. Technical changes, cancellations by showmen, storm warnings and safety measures presented the organizers with major challenges. Despite these hurdles, the opening was celebrated by a large crowd of visitors who enjoyed the colorful hustle and bustle. The cuckoo musicians accompanied the festival musically with traditional melodies, including “Ja so en gude Palzwoi” and “Hello Dolly”.
A celebration for the whole family
The fair in Edesheim, which has been taking place since 1740, has now become an integral part of local life. The wineries around the Edesheim church celebrate from August 30th to September 1st, with the opening taking place on August 30th this year Rhine Palatinate reported. Visitors can look forward to culinary delicacies and the popular Edesheim wine, and not only there - an extensive program with rides, exhibitions and sales stands also invites you to linger.
A highlight is the announced duck race on Sunday, at which children's and party song singer Markus Becker will perform. Sunday is all about family, with a games festival organized by the supporters of children and youth in Edesheim. From soccer dart boards to face painting to a candy slingshot, there's something for everyone!
Tradition meets enjoyment
On Sunday morning there is also an ecumenical service in Pfarrwingert, followed by the popular morning pint concert by the Cuckoo Musicians. The second Edesheim duck race starts at 2 p.m. Special features such as homemade cakes from the Catholic women's community and cheese spaetzle from the altar boys' association make the event a culinary experience. Various drinking points, organized by various local groups, ensure that you don't stay thirsty. Wine festivals in the Palatinate are an indispensable part of the regional calendar from March to November, and the Edesheim fair brings a very special touch this year.
Those responsible for the festival, including young winemakers, various clubs and caterers, were explicitly acknowledged by Kocher. The oldest guest, Mr. Wagner, born on February 10, 1935, graced the event with his presence. The greetings from other local politicians also gave the festival an official framework.
Maria Leibel, the wine princess, discussed the advantages of Edesheim and gave the official starting signal for the fair. For everyone who visits the fair in Edesheim, one thing is certain: community, tradition and lots of joy are celebrated here!
