Mina Lichtenberg conquers the stage: Jazz evenings fascinate Mainz
On May 13, 2025, a remarkable concert evening took place as part of the seventh SWR Jazz College, at which young talents from the jazz institutes in the broadcasting area demonstrated their skills. A special highlight was the performance by the trio ILLUMINA, led by bassist Mina Lichtenberg. The musicians combine not only jazz, but also influences from classical piano music and Colombian folklore, as SWR reports.
The trio consists of talented artists: Mina Lichtenberg on bass, Leandro Hernandez-Waber on piano and Jonas Drobczyinski on drums. Rousing pieces were played, including Lichtenberg's “You're blooming” and several compositions by Hernandez-Waber such as “Cifras de tronco” and “Chumanchu”. With so much musical diversity, the audience seemed to be enthusiastic.
Jazz of a new generation in Weilheim
There was also a great evening of music in Weilheim when the acoustic trio “Comilitunes” performed as part of “Musik am Rathausplatz”. The band, consisting of pianist Constantin Hauck, singer Lisa Istenes and double bassist Mina Lichtenberg, presented their first CD “Home tonight”. The mixture of jazz standards, soulful sounds and pop ballads was also very well received by the audience, which has already made the trio a name for themselves. Mercury reports on her first performances that took place during her studies at the Munich University of Music.
The CD “Home tonight”, which includes eight subtle original compositions, reflects inner films and the transitions between night and day. The album was recorded in Munich and will soon be celebrated with a release concert in the Puchheim Cultural Center. All three members are about to take their exams as prospective high school music teachers, and Hauck is already planning a trip to Europe afterwards.
Festival with a breath of fresh air
Another exciting event in the jazz scene is the “Young Lions on Stage” festival, which is taking place for the 14th time this year. From April 28th to May 17th, the Nuremberg University of Music, in cooperation with the Jazz Studio Nuremberg, is presenting a colorful program with young jazz musicians. The HfM Nuremberg Big Band opens the festival under the direction of Prof. Steffen Schorn with classical and modern sounds, as HFM Nürnberg reports.
Artists like Roberto Bonati, who appears as artist in residence at this festival, bring a breath of fresh air and show how versatile jazz can be interpreted today. The festival days offer numerous opportunities to discover young talent - a must for all jazz lovers!
