Massive traffic jams in Rhineland-Palatinate: Holidaymakers have to expect long waiting times!
The summer holidays in Rhineland-Palatinate have finally started! Where family life is otherwise characterized by school stress and time pressure, many people are now taking the opportunity to go on vacation. But be careful: there is a risk of traffic jams stretching for kilometers on the roads, especially on the main arteries. Mercury reports that traffic density on the highways is increasing significantly and drivers should prepare for significant delays.
Many families have planned a trip to the family holiday paradise at the weekend, which increases the risk of traffic jams. According to the daily news The best time to leave is Monday July 7th or Tuesday July 8th. To minimize the risk of traffic jams, experts recommend starting earlier or driving at night. Traffic jams are common, especially on Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons.
Particularly affected routes
The A3, A61, A6 and A48 motorways are at the top of the list of routes at risk of traffic jams. Things get particularly tight here because they are important north-south connections. The ADAC recommends paying attention to current traffic reports and choosing other routes if necessary. ADAC also mentions the A1, A2, A4, A5 and other motorways as particularly heavily polluted. Construction sites on the A6 and A63 are also contributing to the more tense traffic situation.
Another problem: From July 1st, truck driving bans will apply on all Saturdays between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m., which could ease the burden on car traffic somewhat, but not all freight drivers adhere to it. It therefore makes sense to plan times and routes accordingly so as not to get stuck in traffic.
Tips for travelers
So what is the best way to manage travel? The ADAC recommends filling up the evening before departure, as fuel prices often reach their lowest point between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Drivers should also always remember to create an emergency lane when traffic is at a standstill - every minute could be worth its weight in gold in the event of an emergency.
There have also been waiting times at border crossings with neighboring countries such as the Netherlands due to increased controls since May. Travelers should therefore plan enough time. Passengers at Hahn Airport can expect around 380,000 passengers, while Frankfurt Airport is expecting up to 215,000 travelers on the first holiday weekend. This means that arriving on time and having all the necessary documents ready is the most important thing.
These are just some of the tips to make your summer trip as relaxing as possible. Ultimately, it doesn't hurt to be careful when choosing a day to travel, and with a pinch of flexibility everyone can reach their destination safely. With this in mind, we wish all Cologne residents and travelers a safe journey and relaxing holidays!
