HSV transfer coup: Lokonga and Vieira from London for promotion!
On September 1, 2025, things will be twice as exciting on the Elbe: Hamburger SV signed two talents from Arsenal on the last day of the summer transfer period. With Sambi Lokonga and Fabio Vieira, the Hanseatic League are bringing a breath of fresh air into their midfield to strengthen their squad for the coming season. While Lokonga has already arrived in Hamburg and signed the contracts after passing his medical check, Vieira's medical examinations will be carried out throughout the day. A loan with a purchase option of over 20 million euros is planned, as transfermarkt.de reports.
Sambi Lokonga, a 25-year-old Belgian midfielder, has already had an impressive career. After training at RSC Anderlecht, he moved to Arsenal in 2021 for 17.5 million euros, where he has been loaned out several times in the last three years - including to Crystal Palace, Luton Town and Sevilla FC. Last season he made 22 appearances in La Liga and contributed two assists. HSV has high hopes for him to improve the game in the final third. His market value of currently 8 million euros could be very interesting for the club.
Fabio Vieira: Creative playmaker
His new teammate Fabio Vieira brings a different style of play. The 25-year-old Portuguese is considered a creative mind in midfield, known for his strong left foot and dangerous long-range shots. Vieira moved from FC Porto to Arsenal in 2022 for a whopping €35 million and has since played 49 games for the Gunners, scoring three goals and providing ten assists. His market value has fallen from 30 million euros in autumn 2022 to 22 million euros, but the team around sports director Stefan Kuntz is convinced that he can significantly strengthen the offensive.
With these two new additions, HSV's squad value could rise from the current 80.4 million euros to an impressive 110.4 million euros - an increase of around 37 percent, which is a remarkable increase for a Bundesliga club in the race for the best places. The contributions are also impressive: Otto Stange is loaned out to SV Elversberg, while Joel Agyekum moves to third division club Viktoria Köln.
More moves in the squad
In addition, HSV is planning to strengthen its defense by loaning a player from Tottenham Hotspur, Mario Vuskovic's brother. It remains exciting to see how further squad movements will affect the season. Fans are hoping for a successful season and after the signings of Lokonga and Vieira, it looks like HSV have shown a good hand at identifying young talent.
However, the price for the Danish youngster William Bøving from SK Sturm Graz seems to be on a downward trend. HSV was also interested in him, but the Facebook community expects him to move to Mainz 05 soon. These developments raise the question: Is HSV ready to prove itself in the promotion race?
There is never a dull moment in the colorful world of football, and Hamburger SV is definitely a topic of conversation. It remains to be seen how the two newcomers perform in the HSV jersey and what other surprises the transfer period has in store!
