Literature and politics: Exciting readings await you in Pirmasens!
The Pirmasens city library, a real meeting place for literature and culture lovers, has put together an exciting program for the coming months. The events range from gripping readings to inspiring discussions. The film screening by Klaus Scherer in particular is already being treated as a highlight. The Pirmasenser journalist will begin his film preview “The Colors of New England” in the Forum Alte Post on Friday, August 29, 2025 at 7:30 p.m. Loud rheinpfalz.de The travel report revolves around the impressive landscapes of New England and the stories of its residents.
After the film it's not over: A discussion with Scherer himself examines the political situation in the USA, although the topic has no connection to Trump. The entry price of 5 euros is more than fair, and tickets will be available at the city library from Monday, July 28, 2025. Doors open at 7 p.m. and seats are freely chosen.
Conversations about trees and more
Another highlight is coming up on Thursday, October 9, 2025. Bodo Leser and Kerstin Bachtler appear in the Carolinensaal and present “Conversations about trees, poems about democracy”. This event, which focuses on poems against right-wing extremist ideas, is based on the anthology "Conversations about trees. Poems about democracy", which was published in March 2025. 120 authors submitted over 300 poems, from which a jury made a selection - the result promises literary diversity. Admission to this event is 13 euros, tickets can be purchased from September 8, 2025. After the reading there will be a champagne drink, which should make the event a cozy get-together.
The city library's offerings not only focus on literary aspects, but also address social issues as a whole. Foundation against racism points out that access to events in the city library can be denied to people who are affiliated with right-wing extremist groups or ideas. This shows that the library wants to send a clear message and actively opposes racism and discrimination.
Another literary highlight
On Thursday, October 30, 2025, the reading by the author Peter Kern is on the program. Kern will read from his book “Village View with Nazis,” in which he discusses the crimes of the Nazis and his own childhood in the 1960s. On another evening, December 10, 2025, Hubertus Meyer-Burckhardt will present his new program "The sun always shines. I can't help the clouds." Both events promise exciting insights and lively discussions.
The Pirmasens city library has put together an exciting and varied program of events that addresses both local and national topics. Whether reading, film or discussion – there is something for everyone here. And with a good knack for current topics, the library shows that it is an important part of Pirmasen's cultural landscape.
