Chaos at the Wiesbaden wine festival: clashes and arrests!
A turbulent wine festival in Wiesbaden caused one or two moments of shock at the weekend. Between August 15 and 17, 2025, several incidents occurred that posed a challenge not only to the visitors present, but also to the police forces. Not only fights but also notorious attacks were reported on the market square and in the surrounding streets.
On August 15th at 11:15 p.m., a 22-year-old man from the Rhein-Lahn district was involved in a fight. At first he was cooperative with the officers, but later he showed aggressive behavior and tried to escape. When he was arrested, he resisted and fell due to his drunkenness, which caused minor injuries to three police officers. However, the officers remained on duty and after sobering up, the 22-year-old was taken into custody.
Significant arguments and harassment
The next incident was not long in coming: on August 16th at 12:15 a.m., a 28-year-old from Wiesbaden tried to evade police control by attacking the officers. After he was arrested, he spent some time in a cell sobering up.
Immediately afterwards, at 12:45 a.m., a 44-year-old from Wiesbaden violently kicked a glass bottle in the direction of a patrol car. He was also arrested, but this confrontation ended without any injuries.
Another incident occurred on August 16 at 7:50 a.m. when two Wiesbaden residents, 24 and 25 years old, got into a verbal argument with a group of four men. The argument ended in the use of pepper spray, which caused minor injuries to the victims. The perpetrators then fled in an unknown direction.
Early morning sexual assault
A particularly bad incident occurred on August 17th at 2:10 a.m. on Frankfurter Strasse when a 36-year-old man inappropriately touched and stalked a 22-year-old woman. The young woman fought back loudly, which attracted the attention of her boyfriend, who held the perpetrator until the police arrived. The man was temporarily arrested.
These incidents highlight the security situation during the wine festival and the challenges faced by the police. Despite the numerous incidents, the state and riot police in Wiesbaden remain optimistic and announced that they would continue controls to promote a feeling of security in the city. In the last few days, a total of 53 people have been checked and several investigations have been initiated.
It remains to be hoped that the situation will improve in the coming events and that visitors to the Wiesbaden festivities will be able to celebrate carefree again.
