New hope for Heßheim: family doctor takes over practice!

In the Frankenthal area, there is great concern about primary care. After the unexpected closure of the Heßheim family doctor's practice in March of this year, there is now a ray of hope in the community. As the Rheinpfalz reports, the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians has assigned one of the two contracted doctor's offices in the closed practice to a doctor. At the request of Mayor Michael Reith (SPD), he announced that the doctor did not want to give her name for the time being, which is not unusual in such cases.

The opening of their new practice is planned for October 2nd, which should please many Heßheim patients who have had to be cared for elsewhere since the closure. The former practice building, which was abandoned by the Scheid couple, belongs to the local community of Heßheim, which will rent it to the new doctor. The mayor hopes that many patients will return to the new practice and that there will be enough demand for two contracted doctors.

An important step for health care

Family doctor-centered care (HZV) plays a crucial role in this context. This special form of medical care ensures that family doctors are the first point of contact for patients to coordinate their further treatment. As the Hessen GP Care website explains, patients in a HZV system benefit from better and coordinated care, as GPs have a comprehensive overview of their patients' medical history, medication and their private and professional environment.

With the new contract doctor's headquarters in Heßheim, the role of general practitioners in the health system will be further strengthened. Scientific evaluations show that family doctors are also fairly paid under HZV, which contributes to the attractiveness of this form of care. Paragraph 73b in Book V of the Social Security Code ensures the legal basis for many general practitioners in Germany to work in this system. Around 16,000 general practitioners and more than 5.9 million patients are currently taking part.

The future of primary care in Heßheim

The new doctor has already recruited staff, but will initially work alone. It is up to her to decide whether she would like to involve a practice partner. One possibility is also to convert the practice into a general medical care center until it retires, which the association could probably consider.

The concept of outpatient care, which forms the basis of statutory health care, zooms in on the importance of practicing physicians. In Germany, these are the main players in the area of outpatient care, with the majority of these treatments taking place without overnight stays in the hospital. A strong and well-functioning practice system is therefore essential for healthcare in Heßheim and beyond. The start of a new practice on October 2nd offers hope for a return to the usual care structures and an improvement in health care for the population.

Increasing primary care medical care is a clear step in the right direction for Heßheim. The community can be optimistic that the new practice will bring a breath of fresh air and trust in medical care.
