Waldsee celebrates: forgotten image stock is revived!
In bright sunshine, the ceremonial inauguration of the restored picture stick took place in Waldsee on October 6, 2025. This small ceremony, which was aimed at the village community, was accompanied by prominent actors, including Mayor Claudia Klein (CDU) and the committed colleagues Siegfried Keller and Norbert Keller. Particularly noteworthy is Raimund Spindler, who has tirelessly campaigned for the screen to be forgotten. In his souvenir lesson, which initiated the festive framework, he combined the past with the present and created an ambience to linger and reflect.
A total of five shrines are around Waldsee, one of them lost for a long time before it has been replaced. These religious small monuments, which are often placed on crossings, have a deeper cultural and spiritual meaning that goes back to the 14th century. As explained by the Archdiocese of Cologne, the common characteristics of these ways are usually a three-part structure, consisting of socket, shaft and essay. They are often signs for hikers and pilgrims and indicate dangerous places.
The legacy of religious small monuments
Crosses of path and shrines are not only witnesses of religious art, but also the faith that is rooted in the region. According to libellius, many of these monuments have a lasting cultural value. Often they could hardly be placed more beautiful because they are built in important places - often for the request for God's blessing or gratitude for survived diseases. Over the centuries, however, there have also been dark side: many of these crosses are in a regrettable condition, since they often suffer from lack of time and money.
An example of the vulnerable state of religious small monuments can be seen in the historical retrospective that many crosses were lost during the French line -up from 1794 to 1814. Numerous of these monuments were reported, either torn down or had to be hidden in order to preserve religious traditions, such as Archdiocese of Cologne.
A sign of hope in the present
The restoration of the image stick in Waldsee is an encouraging example of the conscious handling of the cultural heritage. The lively memories associated with the screen can now be integrated into the everyday life of the village. Likewise, such initiatives promote awareness of the importance of maintaining and restoring religious small monuments such as shrine sticks that act as landmarks in our history.
The inauguration ceremony has not only revitalized the image stick, but also strengthened and encouraged the village community to continue to maintain cultural identity - a step that is far more than just restoring a neglected place. A place that now invites you to linger and stimulates thought will hopefully be a sign of hope for future generations.
