Start of summer in Rhineland-Palatinate: sun, rain and changeable weather!
On July 9, 2025, the people of Rhineland-Palatinate can look back on an unpleasant weather situation that welcomed the summer holidays with cool and rainy weather. How SWR reports, the state is currently located between a high pressure area over France and a low pressure area over Eastern Europe. This complex weather constellation causes a lot of movement in the overall weather situation and makes precise forecasts for the coming weeks difficult.
However, the good news from the meteorological offices is that sunny and summery warm weather is expected until next Sunday. The high pressure area from France brings warmer weather and more sunshine. Wednesday could be the hottest day of the year, with temperatures in cities between 20 and 24 degrees, while in the Eifel and Hunsrück regions temperatures of 16 to 19 degrees will be reached.
Weather developments in the next week
Thursday will be below 30 degrees in many places; to be precise, the heat record of almost 40 degrees in Andernach has remained unbeatable in the last few days. We can also look forward to clear to cloudy weather on Friday, with temperatures between 23 and 27 degrees. The 30 degree mark could be reached again by the weekend, although only a few cumulus clouds will be visible.
The German Weather Service (DWD) has currently not predicted a new heat wave, but unsettled but humid weather is to be expected, with temperatures of up to 30 degrees in the coming week. It remains to be seen how the dynamic weather situation will develop.
A look at climate change
Scientists emphasize that the average temperature in Germany has increased by 1.6 degrees since 1881. Particularly noteworthy is the development of hot days, the number of which has tripled since the 1950s. In an increasingly warmer climate, future prospects are also fraught with concern: a temperature increase of 3.1 to 4.7 degrees is forecast for the period 2071 to 2100 compared to 1971 to 2000.
In these turbulent times, it is important to keep a cool head and sharpen our awareness of the weather and the complexities of climate change. Stay up to date on the weather developments in your region, as the weather can change quickly here!
