Experience day in the Speyer Cathedral: Discover young people faith again!

Speyer, Deutschland - On June 26, 2025, a very special day of experience found in the Speyer Cathedral for young people under the motto "About You. And Me." instead of. This day brought young people from Schöneberg-Kübelberg, Hettenleidelheim and Speyer together with their fernmmbeg leaders. The departments of youth pastoral care and pastoral basic services organized an all -round successful event in which the participants explored the impressive cathedral.

In small groups, the young people set out to discover different stations of the cathedral. A lively cathedral guidance led them through the tower to the Kaisersaal, over the crossing and finally to the crypt. A special highlight was the opportunity to share personal thoughts in the Afra chapel.

a conversation with Auxiliary Bishop Otto Georgenens

Another highlight of the day was the conversation with Auxiliary Bishop Otto Georgenens . The Auxiliary Bishop, who received his ordination in Speyer on June 26, 1977, spoke to the young people about his personal history of faith and also shared moments of doubt. "Be critical and constructive," he called to the present and encouraged her to find her own way in faith.

Behind Otto Georgenens is an impressive career. After a time as a secretary of the Speyer Bishop, he took over as a pastor in Eppenbrunn and was appointed auxiliary bishop in 1995. He is not only known for his theological work, but also for his publications, including books on religion. Georgenens is an active member of various commissions of the German Bishops' Conference and has also emerged at the diocese anniversary with a special address.

final service and outlook

The day ended a moving graduation service in which the company applicants reaffirmed their faith in their own words. "Amen, love, family and belief in God" were some of the messages that the young people incorporated into their creed. The service was musically framed by the band "Ck & Friends", which with their sounds provided a solemn atmosphere.

Anyone who missed the day of experience can look forward to the next appointment: on September 6th, Bishop Karl-Heinz Wiesemann will lead another day of the firmlings.

The future of the church could be influenced by such events and conversations as with Georgenens. In the upcoming orders in the diocese of Speyer, who only recently took place and were considered pioneering work, this could be brought about to new life between the church and its believers. In this context, a change towards a greater integration of women and men in church services has also taken place , supported by the new canon law of Pope Franziskus.
