Exciting specialist event in Speyer: Innovations for agriculture 2025!

At a time when climate change is increasingly on our doorstep and extreme weather events such as heavy rain and droughts are increasing in the Upper Rhine region, the need for solutions for sustainable agriculture is becoming more urgent than ever. On August 21, 2025, farmers, consultants and interested parties are cordially invited to the specialist event “Research. Field. Practice.” to take part in the Rinkenbergerhof in Speyer. The event, which is organized by the Agricultural Research and Research Institute (LUFA) Speyer, is all about adapting to climatic challenges and is dedicated to intercrop cultivation before maize.

This event will be part of the cross-border research project KLIMACrops, which promotes a dialogue between research, practice and consultants. Experts from LUFA Speyer, the Augustenberg Agricultural Technology Center (LTZ) and the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district office will be on site to discuss and present practical solutions. The topics of soil structure, nutrient efficiency and nitrogen balances are particularly addressed in order to give farmers valuable suggestions for their operations, reports MRN News.

Interactive field visits and workshops

A highlight of the event will be the interactive field tour with various stations, during which infiltration measurements will also be carried out. Here, farmers can benefit directly from the latest findings and exchange ideas with others. After the inspection there will be a shared drink, which also serves as a networking opportunity. Participation in the event is free, but registration is required.

The KLIMACrops research project, in which over 20 partners from Germany, France and Switzerland are active, has set itself the goal of finding answers to the challenges of climate change. The impact of extreme weather conditions on the cultivation of major crops such as wheat and corn is examined, and the focus is on developing farming systems and techniques that help agriculture to survive under changing climatic conditions, such as Agroecology Rhin explained.

Science comes to the rescue

Scientific studies show that traditional farming methods are often no longer able to meet the demands of a growing number of extreme weather events. Findings from various studies show that agricultural practices need to be adapted in order to achieve climate goals and make agriculture sustainable. Researchers warn that without appropriate measures, emissions in the agricultural sector will continue to rise and the climate goals are at risk Federal Agency for Civic Education documented.

In a constantly changing world, it takes a joint effort from everyone involved - farmers, scientists and consultants must work together to make agriculture not only climate-proof, but also economically future-proof. August 21, 2025 could be a crucial day on which new approaches, ideas and perspectives for agriculture in the Upper Rhine will be developed.
