Traffic chaos in Speyer: Cathedral Square closed due to swearing in!

Preparations for the upcoming swearing-in ceremony on Friday, August 29, 2025, in Speyer are in full swing. The Speyer city administration has already announced extensive traffic control measures to guarantee that the event runs smoothly.

From 10:00 a.m. to around 1:30 p.m., Cathedral Square in Speyer will be completely closed to vehicle and bicycle traffic. This means that there is no access from the old town via Stuhlbrudergasse to the cathedral square. Instead, traffic will be redirected, particularly via Tränkgasse and the Unterer Domgarten car park. Particular caution is also required in the area of Stuhlbrudergasse and the parking spaces at the Domgarten, which will also not be usable during the closure period.

Buses and diversion regulations

The traffic control measures also affect local public transport: the buses on line 561 will be rerouted from 10:00 a.m. to around 2:00 p.m., with replacement stops being set up. Customers can find out about current information on a notice board. In addition, the one-way street regulation in Große Himmelsgasse between Pfaugasse and Domplatz will be lifted during the closure, which will make traffic even easier.

The Speyer city administration asks all residents and road users to understand and plan their routes in advance. This is also intended to ensure that the festivities for the swearing-in ceremony can take place without major disruptions. So anyone who is traveling in Speyer this Friday should be prepared for the temporary changes.

An interesting detail is that the city is not only concerned with traffic changes. Currently, several events are being planned that could also be culturally enriching. Whether partying or driving, Speyer has a lot to offer in the near future.

Further information about the event and the traffic situation can be found at Speyer-Kurier.

Stay tuned, because as part of these preparations there will certainly be a lot of news that will move city life in Speyer!
