New shine for the Queichtal cycle path: opening after renovation!
After months of closure, the shines Queichtal cycle path now in new splendor. The popular cycle path between Annweiler and Sarnstall has been recently renovated and features new asphalt. This renovation is not only a feast for the eyes, but also improves safety and riding pleasure for cyclists who want to enjoy the scenic route through the Queichtal.
The route stretches over 58.1 kilometers from Hauenstein to its mouth in the Rhine and leads through beautiful landscapes - from the Palatinate Forest to the vineyards of the German Wine Route to the Rhine plain. The journey takes approximately 3 hours and 55 minutes, with an ascent of 28 meters and a descent of 200 meters. The highest point is estimated at 271 meters and the lowest at 96 meters. There is something for everyone – from the leisurely cyclist to the ambitious athlete.
Sights and places to stop for refreshments
There is a lot to discover along the Queichtal cycle path. Sights such as the Reichsburg Trifels in Annweiler and the town of Landau attract attention. The pond meadows are also a highlight, which contribute to biological diversity and are even considered an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO. And after cycling? No problem: There are numerous inns and restaurants along the route that provide a hearty stopover.
Security and arrival
Anyone traveling on the cycle path should pay attention to safety. A considerate driving style is particularly important as the paths are also used by winegrowers and farmers. Cyclists are also encouraged to take litter with them and stay on designated paths to protect nature.
Getting to the Queichtal cycle path is straightforward: take the A65 to the Landau-Nord exit and then continue on the B10 to Hauenstein. There are also several train stations along the route, such as in Hauenstein, Annweiler, Landau and Germersheim, so the use of public transport is possible. Taking bicycles on regional trains is permitted, although additional fees may apply depending on the time of day.
The extensive renovation work includes not only the new asphalt, but also construction work underground that will prepare the cycle path for the future. New signage for the cycle path is also planned for 2025, which will make it easier for cyclists to orient themselves. The Queichtal cycle path remains a popular destination for leisure and sport in the Palatinate.
