Complete closure of the K38: Wilgartswiesen cut off from the B10 for a week!

An important transport connection between Hauenstein and Wilgartswiesen will be closed next week, from Monday, September 15th to Friday, September 19th. The K38 will be completely closed for renovation work on the railway underpass, meaning that Wilgartswiesen will be cut off from the B10 for this time. This not only means detours for drivers, but also for cyclists who have to take other routes.

Andreas Wilde, spokesman for the SPD in the Hauenstein municipal council, expressed concern about the situation and described the blocking as a “public prank”. The planning surrounding this construction site is considered unfortunate by many, as the diversions cost both time and additional kilometers. Drivers will be redirected via the B10, while cyclists can use an alternative route via Spirkelbach. All diversion routes are well signposted, which should ensure a certain level of orientation for road users, but dissatisfaction with the circumstances remains noticeable - residents and commuters depend on a smooth flow of traffic.

Detours and road users

The renovation measures are necessary, but one can imagine that many residents of Hohenstein and Wilgartswiesen are hoping that the closure will end soon. Traffic will shift as usual and those responsible ask for your attention and understanding of the traffic restrictions.

In the larger context, such closures and diversions are also a symptom of a problem that runs throughout Germany: federal transport infrastructure planning. This is often criticized because many transport infrastructure projects are no longer geared to the needs of the population. A comprehensive review and adjustment of plans is essential to make mobility sustainable and future-proof. The federal government is therefore planning a new federal transport infrastructure and mobility plan for 2040, which is intended to create better conditions. The aim is to treat all modes of transport equally and to promote climate-friendly mobility.

The necessary planning steps include clear objectives and priorities that should also take regional needs into account. An integrated planning approach could help not only to improve infrastructure, but also to strengthen public transport and offer new transport alternatives. These aspects are particularly important considering that the use of electric vehicles is increasing and there are fears of loss of revenue from fuel taxes, as the BUND analysis shows.

It remains to be seen whether the diversions on the K38 and the associated measures are a small step towards a larger change. But the current situation reminds us that transport infrastructure is a recurring issue that affects many people and in which we all have great interests.
