125 years of BBS Trier: Students celebrate creative projects for the future!

On June 19, 2025, BBS Design and Technology Trier celebrated a very special event: its 125th anniversary. In bright sunshine, students, teachers, alumni and numerous guests of honor came together to properly celebrate this anniversary. As part of the festival, the final presentation of the project week on the topic of “Ecology and Democracy” was also honored.

The students were deeply immersed in the subject matter and presented impressive works that addressed both creative approaches to sustainability in training and work as well as to strengthening democracy. The school community was visibly enthusiastic about the diverse projects that underlined the high importance of vocational training. In their speeches, Thomas Linnertz, President of ADD Trier, and City Mayor Elvira Garbes emphasized the great importance of vocational training and sustainability for the development of the region.

Art project connecting democracy and ecology

As part of these festivities, Lisa Schneider, a teacher at BBS, addressed the public with a special request. She announced a planned art project that focuses on the challenges of climate change, resource scarcity and social tensions. The goal is for students to understand complex relationships and actively participate in solutions. The artist Ali Anvari should encourage them to develop their own artistic positions and create space for dialogue and reflection.

Particular emphasis is placed on the important connection between democracy and ecological responsibility. In the art project, the students should learn that their voices count and that they can actively participate in shaping their future. To support this project, donations are requested, which will be used to cover material costs and the artist's fees. Any support - no matter the amount - is seen as a valuable contribution to strengthening the opinion-forming of young people.

Vocational training as a driver of sustainable transformation

The importance of vocational training for sustainable development is undisputed. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) specifically promotes practical approaches to implementing sustainability in vocational training. As part of the “Sustainable at work – future-oriented training” (NIB) program, around 43 million euros in targeted funding is aimed at establishing minimum requirements for environmental protection and sustainability in educational processes.

The program includes several funding guidelines that promote innovative projects in vocational training. These are intended to help trainees be able to integrate sustainability into their professional activities and processes in the future. The examples of successful projects impressively show how vocational training can act as the key to transformation into a sustainable future.

Overall, the anniversary celebration at BBS Design and Technology Trier was a complete success. Headmaster Stefan Justinger expressed his enthusiasm about the lively school community and the positive feedback. The combination of a celebratory occasion and serious commitment to issues that affect future generations has shown that the school is not only a place for learning, but also for active participation.

Those interested are invited to find out more and support upcoming projects and fundraising initiatives. The future is in the hands of young people - and it remains to be seen how creatively and sustainably they will shape it.
