Large-scale exercise by the fire department: fire simulated at Möbel Martin!

In Zweibrücken, a large-scale fire drill will take place at the central warehouse of the Möbel Martin furniture store on Saturday, August 16th at 2 p.m. Under the scenario of an outdoor fire spreading to the camp, numerous firefighters will come together to practice both human rescue and firefighting. The exercise, which will take around 1.5 to 2 hours, also invites spectators who would like to gain an insight into the work of the fire brigade and the performance of the emergency services. According to Rheinpfalz, the Zweibrücken fire department, units of the Verbandsgemeinde Zweibrücken-Land, support the fire department's height rescue group Pirmasens and the Triwo fire brigade unit during this exercise.

Fire drills are important not only to train emergency services, but also to raise employees' awareness of fire safety. These exercises simulate evacuation processes and test the functionality of fire protection systems, as described in detail in Wirtschaftswissen. The legal regulations for carrying out such exercises are based on the Occupational Safety and Health Act and the Workplace Ordinance. Companies are therefore obliged to carry out training regularly, ideally 2 to 3 times a year, especially in areas with a high fire risk.

Important parts of the exercise

The planned exercise will include various elements of practical fire safety training. This includes fire extinguishing exercises in which the use of fire extinguishers is trained, as well as evacuation exercises in which the orderly spatial escape of employees is practiced. Participants must know how to react in an emergency in order to escape a potentially dangerous area almost effortlessly and quickly. Bvbf-Brandschutz emphasizes that timely action is crucial in order to prevent major damage and dangerous situations.

A central point in the preparation of these exercises is passing on information to the fire department about the scenario and the planned measures. It is important to name evacuation assistants and fire protection assistants and to ensure that escape and rescue routes are clearly marked. This is the only way to ensure an organized approach that can save lives in an emergency.

Why not just theory?

Too often, small and medium-sized companies lack the necessary practical experience with fire drills. A fire safety study shows that many employees feel inadequately prepared. This is particularly worrying because practical training – such as learning how to use fire extinguishers – is essential in an emergency. Virtual exercises are not a replacement for real scenarios in which employees are confronted with fire, smoke and the individual processes. An effective fire protection concept must include both preventive measures and the ability to help yourself in an emergency.

The upcoming exercise at the furniture store in Zweibrücken is therefore not only important for the emergency services, but also for everyone who would like to gain an insight into the important topic of fire protection. It is a valuable step towards safety and prevention.
