Lions Club Presidential Handover: New Year, New Visions!
The club world of the Merzig Lions Club underwent a change at the top today, July 3, 2025. Dr. Norbert Wolsfeld handed over the presidency to his successor Dr. Patric Bialas. Wolsfeld looks back on a successful year under the motto “Preservation through change”. He warmly thanked the Lion Friends for their participation in events and generous fundraising efforts.
One of the highlights of last year was a successful club trip to Freiburg. Deserving members were also honored at the handover. Ralph Trebes received an award for 30 years of membership, while Andreas Büschenfeld and Uwe Welschbillig, who were honored in absentia, have been active in the club for 15 and 10 years.
A new Lions year begins
Dr. Patric Bialas, a doctor with a pain medicine practice in Saarlouis, thanked Wolsfeld for his excellent work. He looks forward to his new task with great joy. In keeping with this year's Albert Schweitzer anniversary year, his motto will be “Reverence for life”. To properly usher in the new year, an exciting program is starting with the topic “AI in medicine – a blessing or a curse”.
The event program is varied and includes club evenings with picnics in good weather as well as lectures on the topics of “Medicine and Ethics” and “Schweitzer’s theological paradigm”. In addition, the culinary commitment will continue - a Christmas tree sale on December 13th promises fir trees, the new Lions wine and, for the first time, even a soup cannon!
Commitment to society
In keeping with the motto “we serve”, the Merzig Lions Club will once again focus on social projects this year that support both young and older generations. The last event of the first half of the year brings the members together for a traditional Christmas party in the Hotel-Restaurant Roemer.
The president's support is guaranteed by the secretaries Annette Heilmann and Gudrun Emmerich, who play a crucial role in the club's everyday life. In order to do justice to everyday life in pain medicine practice, important information about closing times and the necessary steps for medication supply is provided to the [Pain Bialas](https:// pain-bialas.de/) patients.
Patients are advised to find out about closing times in good time to avoid undersupply. However, urgent consultations and treatments are still possible via the practice group, although a pain questionnaire must be filled out for new patients.
The Lions Clubs, taken as a whole, not only support those in need, but also promote a strong sense of community, as shown by the Lions Club Berlin Potsdamer Platz, which values voluntary commitment and active participation in club life.
The new Lions year in Merzig is off to a promising start. The members are looking forward to numerous exciting events and a strong sense of togetherness that will continue to enrich the community.
