Ghazaleh from Gerasdorf: Afghan Hound World Champion!

A special dog gentleman who conquers the hearts of the people of Cologne and beyond is the Afghan greyhound Ghazaleh. This elegant four-legged friend recently won the world title at the coursing championship in the Czech Republic. The championship took place in the charming town of Odry, where Ghazaleh left the competition behind with her impressive running style. Her name, of Arabic origin, means something like “gazelle” and is symbolic of her grace and speed.

Ghazaleh lives in the picturesque district of Gerasdorf in St. Egydener and in the heart of an active dog breeders' club. The German Afghan Breeding Club e. V. (DAC e. V.), which has been a breed specialist for Afghan Hounds since it was founded on February 27, 1988, promotes the well-being and breeding of this noble breed. The club is a member of the German Canine Association (VDH) and also belongs to the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI), which guarantees the quality standards for breeding. [DAC e. V.] provides information about breeds and qualification options for members and promotes community and exchange among breeders and breed lovers.

Competition and passion

In greyhound sport, which also includes coursing, the dogs show their impressive hunting ability. Originally, greyhounds hunt rabbits, wolves and deer with their sharp eyes. Today, however, organizers use hunting dummies to train the dogs and encourage their natural instincts. The high level of attention required in this sport ensures that the dogs are always alert and react quickly. Hunting of live game is of course prohibited by law, so the pursuit of bribery through exercise is practiced in greyhound sport. [VDH] has 13 greyhound breeds that form the heart of this traditional sport.

Winning the title of world champion requires special training and a strong bond between dog and owner. Ghazaleh has proven to be the perfect ambassador for the breed and could inspire more people to take up greyhound racing. The DAC e. V. offers exciting opportunities to actively participate in events so that those interested can experience the fascination of these unique dog breeds up close.

Ghazaleh's success is not only the success of an individual dog, but is also a sign of the commitment and passion of breeders and owners in Germany and beyond. For anyone who would like to find out more about Afghan Hounds or even want to take the step into breeding and sport, the doors at DAC e. V. wide open.
