Jessica-Bianca Wessolly sprints to gold at the South German Championships!
Jessica-Bianca Wessolly showed an impressive performance last Sunday at the South German Championships in St. Wendel. She sprinted over 200 meters in a fantastic 23.09 seconds and thus secured the title. She had previously won on Friday in Montgeron, France, in 23.11 seconds. This impressive performance shows that Wessolly is currently in top form and ready to take on new challenges. A short stopover on the way home to St. Wendel couldn't dampen her motivation.
Wessolly, who is 27, has worked hard this year after a long battle to qualify in the lead-up to the Olympics but ultimately missing out. Now she is turning her attention to the next competition at the “Fast Arms Fast Legs” meeting in Wetzlar on July 18th. Here she has a clear plan to break the confirmation standard of 22.85 seconds for the World Championships in Tokyo, which take place from September 13th to 21st. History was also made at the South German Championships: Sonja Keil from LG Augsburg set a new W40 world record over 400 meters with her time of 53.52 seconds. In doing so, she improved the old record from 1994. On the first day of competition, she had already won the title in the 400 meter hurdles in an excellent 58.98 seconds. There were also records to be reported in the discus throw: Claudio Romero from Chile broke the stadium record with 66.56 meters, while Leia Braunagel from Eintracht Frankfurt won the women's discus throw with 58.45 meters.
The successes continue: Fred Isaac Fleurisson won the men's 110 m hurdles in 13.96 seconds and plans to compete again at the U23 DM in Ulm (July 4th to 6th). Tamineh Steinmeier from Zweibrücken also showed incredible talent in the pole vault, where she won with 4.10 meters, but missed the standard of 4.25 meters. Less close, but still worth mentioning: Eva Marie Weisbrodt secured the U18 title with 3.90 meters.
