St. Wendel: Sweat and records at the South German Championships!

The weekend left an impression in St. Wendel - the southern German track and field championships thrilled athletes and spectators alike. In tropical temperatures, athletes not only sought personal bests, but also battled the heat.

The sprinters in particular benefited from the conditions and caused real exhilaration. Sonja Keil from LG Augsburg set a new W 40 world record in the 400 meters with a fantastic time of 53.52 seconds. In doing so, she improved the 30-year-old record by 16 hundredths of a second, which does justice to her brilliance as an athlete. Loud BLV Sports She was the most successful title collector among the active athletes, as she also won gold in the 400 meter hurdles in 58.98 seconds.

A look at the medal distribution

Bayern also performed strongly and won a total of 23 medals. Daryl Ndasi from LG Stadtwerke Munich was the most outstanding athlete, winning three titles: over 100 meters hurdles, 200 meters and in the 4x100 meter relay. Her performance of 46.23 seconds in the relay is a new Bavarian record and underlines the strength of the Bavarian team.

  • Joschka Wiegand (DJK Bayern Altdorf) blieb im Stabhochsprung der Männer mit 5,00 Metern erfolgreich.
  • Bei den Frauen gewann Maryna Kovtunova von TS Herzogenaurach den Hochsprung mit 1,77 Metern.
  • Luisa Tremel von der LG Stadtwerke München glänzte im Speerwurf mit 51,52 Metern.

Talented athletes from Saarland also took part. Celina Rolgeiser from LC Rehlingen secured Saarland's first bronze medal with her triple jump of 11.69 meters. In addition, Ksenia Helios (SV Saar 05) and Svenja Jakobs (LA Team Saar) achieved personal best times in the 100-meter run, with 11.60 seconds and 11.86 seconds respectively. Max Fischer (LG Bliestal) narrowly missed the final and ran 10.82 seconds.

Competitions and spectator interest

The atmosphere was simply fantastic with over 3,000 spectators on both days of the competition. A look into the rows of spectators shows how important such events are for the local community. The support of the fans certainly contributed to the athletes' remarkable performances, despite the oppressive heat.

The competitions in St. Wendel not only reflect the exceptional abilities of the athletes, but also the tireless fighting spirit that prevails in the ranks of the track and field athletes. Whether it was the established stars or the emerging talents - the weekend was all about sport and community. Named after trade fairs and memories, we could say: There's something going on!
