Construction site chaos in Kiel: where you can no longer get through!

The streets of Kiel are currently a big issue, as numerous construction sites not only cause traffic disruptions, but also a variety of activities that are due to be completed in the coming weeks. kn-online.de has compiled current information on construction sites and road closures in the state capital.

The current closures, which extend across various parts of the city, are particularly relevant for residents. Von-der-Goltz-Allee in the area from Krusenotter Weg to Dorotheenstrasse will be closed until July 4, 2025 because asphalt is being replaced here. Dorotheenstrasse becomes a dead end and a diversion is signposted.

Current construction sites at a glance

In Wörthstrasse, between Westring and Geibelallee at number 48, a full closure is also necessary until July 4, 2025. Two dirty water connections are being repaired here, but the sidewalk remains usable for passers-by. In the Gaarden district, drivers also have limited space on Werftstrasse, as canal construction work will affect the road situation until July 11, 2025. Here, too, there is only one lane in both directions. All work on sidewalks and cycle paths should be completed by the end of July 2025.

Another project is the full closure of the Wellseedamm from July 3rd to 14th, 2025 for asphalting work at the junction with Edisonstrasse. The diversion takes place via Edisonstrasse and Bunsenstrasse. And the Projensdorf Tunnel will not come to rest either: On July 9th, a single-lane traffic route in the direction of Kiel-Holtenau is planned between 7 a.m. and 12 p.m., while a speed limit of 50 km/h will apply during this work.

The focus is once again on the Alte Lübecker Chaussee in Kiel-Südfriedhof, where extensive work is being carried out on the railway bridge by Deutsche Bahn. Here, drivers have to expect a reduced headroom of 3.60 m, while traffic is regulated alternately by a traffic light system. Digitalized height controls are also installed to detect trucks that are too high and to ensure traffic control in an emergency, reports kiel.de.

Construction sites with far-reaching consequences

Flensburger Straße will remain completely closed until July 21, 2025 in order to expand the bicycle route. This also affects Eggerstedtstrasse, which will be closed in the direction of Schuhmacherstrasse until July 31, 2025, while rescue rates apply at a corner building. In addition, Sören Street in Ellerbek will be completely renovated by August, including new district heating pipes.

The situation on Hasseer Straße in Kiel-Hassee should also not be underestimated, as a complete closure is expected until the end of November 2025 while the sewers and the street are extensively renovated. The measures are urgently needed because the drinking water and electricity network is also being modernized.

In summary, one can say that the construction sites in Kiel continue to cause a lot of movement. verkehrslage.de also states that further bridge work between Gaarden-Süd/Kronsburg and Hamburger Chaussee is planned by the end of 2025, which will result in height restrictions and the establishment of diversions.

Kiel residents will need a little patience over the next few months until all the work is completed and traffic can flow smoothly again. Until then, keep your eyes open in traffic! Things remain exciting in the construction world of Kiel.
