Kiel in transition: big events, new apartments and unfilled positions!

A lot happened in Kiel last week from August 10th to 15th. A highlight was Paul Kalkbrenner's sold-out open-air concert on Sunday at the Nordmarksportfeld, which attracted thousands of fans and featured an impressive light show. The Ocean Race Europe also caused excitement, but the race ended on a sobering note for the two boats “Allagrande Mapei Racing” and “Holcim-PRB” as both had to retire due to a collision. This reports kn-online.de.

But that wasn't all that shaped the city's events. On Monday, the Kiel town hall came into focus because several management positions there, including those in the areas of youth, schools, sports and fire services, are vacant. This is particularly notable since Mayor Ulf Kampf (SPD) will be resigning from office in a few months. It will be exciting to see how the city will deal with this situation.

Planned social housing and improvements to daycare centers

The city of Kiel is planning a pioneering project on the way to more living space. On Tuesday it was announced that apartments would be built in series as part of the social housing policy. The first location is a public parking lot near the parade ground, where around 100 new apartments are planned. This measure could be an important step in combating the housing crisis.

It was also announced that the Kiel Office for Children and Youth Facilities is looking for qualified specialists. We are looking for educators, socio-educational assistants and childhood educators who would like to make a valuable contribution to child day care in permanent positions. The application deadline is December 31, 2025. Special feature: The positions not only offer a secure job, but also flexibility through part-time work and extensive training opportunities. In addition, an SuE allowance of 130 euros is paid out for full-time work. You can find out more about this on bewerbung-lhk.kiel.de.

Parking for residents and health promotion

There's news not only on the housing market: From Wednesday, residents will also be able to park in the Ikea car park at night. This is a real advantage in times when parking spaces are in short supply. The fee for this is 2 euros per day or 24.90 euros for 30 days. With the start of the project on September 1st, the parking lot will also be accessible outside of business hours - a welcome relief for many Kiel residents.

In addition to housing development, there are also improvements in the health sector. Dr. Britta Raitschew has been appointed as the new medical director of the emergency room at the Kiel Municipal Hospital. Given the increasing number of patients, especially patients who do not require acute treatment, this decision is particularly important.

Environmental and cleanliness initiatives

On Friday, a concept against the rat plague in Gaarden was finally presented. The aim is to reduce the rat population through improvements in waste disposal and then combat them with bait. A measure that could find fertile ground, especially among residents who suffer from the rat infestation.

For all other activities of the city of Kiel - from appointments at the vehicle registration office to services at the residents' registration offices - please book an appointment in advance. This not only ensures order, but also ensures that everything runs smoothly kiel.de betrays us.

Another look at exciting events: the 19th Kiel Duck Race on Sunday, August 24th, at 2 p.m. Accompanied by a colorful program, it promises to be another social highlight of the city.
