Shore power for ships: Rendsburg's port is revolutionizing the industry!

There are some exciting developments on the agenda in the Rendsburg district port in the coming days. From Wednesday, the newly installed shore power system will be put into operation, making it possible to supply various types of ships with electricity during loading and unloading. This is a novelty in Germany and is being celebrated as a big step towards sustainable shipping. As NDR reports, a total of five million euros were invested in the port for this project. Around 550,000 tonnes of goods are handled here every year, which underlines the importance of the facility.

But there is news about shore power supply not only in Rendsburg. In Hamburg-Steinwerder there have also been problems with a similar facility for cruise ships in the recent past. Technical difficulties and a pending delivery of materials mean that the planned use of shore power cannot be pushed forward as planned. Critics, such as the environmental policy spokesman for the left-wing faction Stephan Jersch, express concerns that the original goals for the use of land-based electricity could be missed. Information on this was provided in an answer from the Senate to a small question from the Left faction, which Welt takes up.

Police burdens and social issues

Another important point in the region is the upcoming delegate day of the police union (GdP), which will take place on Wednesday and Thursday in Lübeck-Travemünde. Explosive issues are on the agenda here, such as the high burden on police forces, who worked more than 500,000 hours of overtime last year. In addition, the incumbent chairman Torsten Jäger is no longer running for re-election, which could bring a breath of fresh air to the state board. NDR also report on this.

Social challenges are also reflected in the increasing number of eating disorders, which have increased particularly since the corona pandemic. Specialist advice centers report increased demand from parents who need support for their children. This problem is becoming more and more urgent in Schleswig-Holstein and there is a growing need for skilled workers.

Fire in Kaltenkirchen and handball successes

There was a fire at a car dealer in Kaltenkirchen on Wednesday night, completely destroying several vehicles, including two electric cars. Around 50 firefighters were on site, but fortunately they were able to prevent any injuries. The cause of the fire remains unknown, as reported by NDR.

But not everything revolves around challenges in the region - there is also good news to report in terms of sport: SG Flensburg-Handewitt and THW Kiel have achieved victories in the Handball European League. Flensburg beat AHC Potaissa Turda 33:26, while Kiel triumphed over BSV Bern 35:27.

The weather in North Frisia and Fishing is with lots of clouds and occasional rain, the temperatures are between 12 and 13 degrees. A moderate to strong southwesterly wind is blowing, with isolated stormy gusts possible.
