Young people as peer guides: Anne Frank exhibition in Neumünster!

An exciting cultural event is coming soon in Neumünster: On November 6, 2025, the Anne Frank exhibition will open at the Freiherr vom Stein School. This valuable exhibition entitled "Your Anne. A Girl Writes History" illuminates the life and thoughts of Anne Frank, a German-Jewish girl who fled to the Netherlands during National Socialism and ended tragically there. Anne Frank, who recorded her experiences in a diary, was only 15 years old and died in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1945.

The special feature of this exhibition lies in the interaction between the young visitors and the peer guides, who help guide their age group through the exhibition. Regine Maeting, head of the youth work in Ev.-Luth. Altholstein Church District, emphasizes how important it is that young people learn from each other and support each other in order to carry on the messages of Anne Frank, which raises hope and questions. We are looking for young people for this task who are at least 15 years old, can demonstrate good school performance and are interested in working with their peers. The Altholstein youth organization will conduct training for the peer guides on November 4th and 5th.

Dates and opening times

The exhibition will be on view until November 28, 2025. For anyone who is interested, opening hours for individual visitors have been set up on certain days: On Friday, November 14th, Saturday, November 15th, Wednesday, November 19th, and Thursday, November 27th, the doors are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. No prior registration is necessary here. Group tours can be booked. The city magazine emphasizes that the exhibition is primarily intended for students in grades 8 to 13, but is open to anyone interested on certain days.

Youth speaker and deacon Björn Hattenbach points out that the exhibition also has a political dimension. In view of current social developments and the disregard for minorities, it is important to draw lessons from history and create awareness of the dangers of the shift to the right. The cooperation partners, including the Catholic parish of Seliger Eduard Müller, the Neumünster youth association and the federal program “Live Democracy!”, support this important initiative to promote the values of tolerance and solidarity.

A look beyond the borders

The topic of Anne Frank not only resonates in Neumünster, but also inspires other cultural events, such as the well-known Canadian drama series “Anne with an E”, which deals with similar topics. This storyline offers us the opportunity to draw parallels and develop a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by youth in the past and present.

The Anne Frank exhibition is more than just a retrospective - it is a call to the young generation to actively engage with their history and to stand up for the values of togetherness and humanity. Don't miss this opportunity and visit the exhibition in Neumünster!
