The Schleswig-Holstein education system is clearly structured and begins with primary school, which lasts four years. Students then have the choice between community schools and high schools, both of which offer lower secondary education qualifications. Anyone who chooses a community school has the chance to complete all school qualifications in one course.
Another interesting offer are the approximately 521 open all-day schools, which enable individual care. The state government has set itself the goal of creating full-day programs at all primary schools by the end of 2022. This not only benefits the students, but also makes it easier for parents to balance work and family life.
Political education in schools
It is particularly important for the older generation that young people are offered access to political education. As the Political education website emphasizes, discussion events with politicians should be organized in schools. These will take place between January 27th and February 21st, 2025 and are intended to give students the opportunity to engage with the candidates and have a conversation.
These discussion groups are moderated by committed students, for example from the student council, which further enhances the event. The election date for the federal election is scheduled for February 23, 2025 and the organizers, the Association of Political Youth Schleswig-Holstein (VPJ SH) and the state commissioner for political education, hope that these initiatives will provide a high level of motivation to take part in the election.
