Bicycle Rally 2025: Thousands of cyclists on the way to Hamburg!
A very special event is coming up on June 22nd, 2025: the bicycle rally from Itzehoe to Hamburg. This event, which is very popular in the cycling scene, is organized by Mobil ohne Auto Nord e.V. and promises a lively ride through nature. The start takes place at 8:15 a.m. at the environmental center/ADFC information shop in Itzehoe. In addition, other cyclists can join us at Krempe train station at 9 a.m. It's a great opportunity for anyone who loves cycling and wants to support environmentally friendly mobility at the same time. The tour to Elmshorn will be led by the ADFC colleagues from Itzehoe before other groups take over responsibility for the route.
What is particularly noteworthy is that the route leads into the city of Hamburg under police escort. This means the participants are safe on the road and can concentrate on driving. The intended final loop around the Outer Alster promises a picturesque end to the successful bike tour. However, participants should remember to take their food and sun protection with them - after all, the sun can shine quite brightly!
Important details and routes
The cycle rally routes are well thought out and include closed main roads, ensuring the safety of cyclists. The travel report from Fahrradsternfahrt.de makes it clear that there are over 80 starting points in northern Germany and that thousands of cyclists stream into the city center. Some routes even take a section of Autobahn 255 over the Elbe to give riders a taste of urban cycling. If you would like to stay up to date, you can sign up for a newsletter or follow the event's social media on Instagram and Facebook.
On the occasion of the upcoming bicycle rally, an ADFC study was published that highlights the immense potential of cycling in Germany. According to this study, which was presented by the Fraunhofer Institute ISI in Berlin, the proportion of bicycle traffic on paths up to 30 kilometers long could be tripled by 2035, for example. This could save up to 19 million tons of CO2 if the necessary measures are implemented. ADF reports that, above all, an inviting cycling infrastructure needs to be expanded in order to make cycling more attractive.
In the best case scenario, the share of bicycles could rise from the current 13 percent to a whopping 45 percent as early as 2035. The prerequisite for this is active promotion of cycling, according to ADFC federal chairman Frank Masurat. The signs are good: Germany could give bicycles the boost in transport that they have long deserved. The upcoming bicycle rally in Hamburg opens another chapter for the cycling movement and brings together people who stand for a bike-friendly future.
With this exciting development in mind, we are looking forward to a great day full of exercise and shared experiences on June 22nd! For anyone who would like more information about the route and meeting points, the details are on the official platform Bicycle rally to find. Ready to roll and hit the town? Be there!
