40 years for the children: Bad Oldesloe's teacher celebrates her anniversary!
Today a very special anniversary is being celebrated in Bad Oldesloe. Monika Schneider, a dedicated educator at the “Am Ehmkenberg” daycare center, looks back on 40 fulfilling years in her profession. Her journey began many decades ago with a happy morning circle, and to this day her passion for working with children remains unbroken. On the occasion of her service anniversary, her protégés surprised her with a moving service. The pastor gave a heartfelt speech, there was a shared song and of course a lovingly designed souvenir album.
When she was just five years old, Monika Schneider knew that she wanted to become an educator. After a preliminary internship in Buxtehude and training at the technical school for social education in Hamburg, she found her way to Bad Oldesloe in 1982. She has been part of the Protestant daycare center since 1985, where she not only teaches the children Christian values through biblical stories, but also the joy of nature. Whether it's a trip to the spa park or cooking with freshly picked apples - her methods are always practical and inspiring.
Changes in everyday working life
Of course, a lot has changed in the last 40 years, even in the tranquil rooms of the “Am Ehmkenberg” daycare center. Schneider faces the new challenges with an open mind. The background noise has changed thanks to quieter toys, and practical innovations such as sound insulation in the rooms have been implemented. The new regulations and documentation requirements also give the old profession a fresh twist. At the same time, childcare times have become longer, which is often due to the work commitments of both parents.
“It would be nice if daycare work received more recognition in the Ministry of Education,” says Schneider. However, the children's needs, such as bonding and closeness, remain constant and are still of great importance to them.
The change in the teaching profession
The profession of educator as a whole is changing. Anke König, Professor of General Education at the University of Vechta, describes this process as necessary to both increase the satisfaction of professionals and improve the education of children. Above all, the transition from daycare to school should be optimized, with the elementary level being recognized as a fundamental part of the education system. Key dimensions such as language support and inclusion are becoming increasingly important, and professionals should specialize in these areas in order to meet the requirements. This not only strengthens the children's individuality, but goes hand in hand with a focus on teamwork and continuous learning, as described in detail on nifbe.de.
State changes affecting early childhood education are also planned for the coming years. From January 1, 2025, a new law to further develop quality and participation in child day care will come into force. The federal government has promised significant funds to achieve the set quality goals. These financial impulses should flow into improving the care structure, optimizing the skilled worker-child ratio and recruiting qualified specialists.
But what role do parents play in the educational process? Parents should be actively involved in the exchange to share their perspectives and expectations. After all, they also contribute to the development of children.
Next year will be another exciting challenge for Monika Schneider as she plans to enjoy her well-deserved retirement. “Traveling and going on excursions” is at the top of her list. This marks the beginning of a new phase in her life, but the memories and experiences she gained in daycare will stay with her for the rest of her life.
With her commitment, her experience and her love for her work, she has enriched not only the children, but also her colleagues and the entire community. This is an achievement that deserves affection and recognition in today's world, where change is often very demanding.
