Hockey for children: Get started now in the THC Bad Oldesloe!

There is great anticipation for the indoor season, because the THC Bad Oldesloe U10 team is looking for new members! Children born in 2015 and 2016 are warmly invited to become part of the team and learn the basics of hockey. The focus here is on games and fun, because the goal is to convey the joy of exercise and to awaken long-term enthusiasm for this lively sport. Children born in 2017 and 2018 or younger children aged around 5 are also welcome, true to the motto: the more, the better!

The training sessions take place in the school sports hall on Masurenweg in Bad Oldesloe, on Wednesdays and Fridays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A non-binding trial training session is offered to interested children and their parents, which is possible at any time. Further information about training times and teams is available on the club's website: thc-bad-oldesloe.de.

Advantages of hockey

Speaking of hockey: This sport is not only an exciting leisure activity, but also the most successful Olympic team sport in Germany. As Phoenix Hockey reports, hockey offers an exciting combination of speed, tactics and, above all, fun. Membership in a hockey club not only promotes team spirit, but also fairness and trust among the players. These are important values that play a role not only on but also off the field.

In the training, which takes place after the Easter holidays until the autumn holidays on artificial turf and then in a variety of halls, even the youngest ones are already on the ball: from the age of 4 there are already the so-called Bambinis. The necessary equipment is usually provided for the training sessions, but participants should bring suitable sports clothing and suitable sports shoes. To make it easier for those who are newly interested, Phoenix also offers a trial training course, for which registration is required at jugendwart@phoenix-hockey.de.

Sports club as a living space

Sports clubs play a crucial role in the growth of children and young people. The sub-project “Growing up with a sports club”, led by Prof. Dr. Ulrike Burrmann at the Humboldt University in Berlin approaches the question of how sports clubs can better meet the needs of the young generation. An online survey that will be carried out in 2023 and 2024 is intended to survey around 2,000 children and young people and their parents. The focus is on important aspects such as the perception of sports offerings, accessibility and also the health benefits of exercise, as the website of the Humboldt University of Berlin informs.

The aim of this project is to specifically find out how children and young people can benefit from their sports club. The initiators are particularly concerned about the inclusion of socially disadvantaged groups and those who are not involved in sports. The results of the study will be presented at a press conference in March 2025, and the continuation of the project in a longitudinal study is already in the starting blocks.

It is clear: sporting activities in a club are more than just fun and games. They promote health, social skills and community. One reason why the indoor season is an exciting time for both new and experienced players! What is certain is that the opportunity to become active in one of the numerous hockey teams not only rekindles the love of sport, but can also have a lasting positive impact on the development of young people.
