First Waldheim service in Tailfingen inspires 200 children!

In Tailfingen, the first Waldheim camp, which ended with a festive church service, touched the hearts of the participants. Co-leader Carina Neumann welcomed the children, who have now grown up, and reminded them that the motto of this leisure activity is “Small but important”. Around 200 children and 60 employees sang “Great is our God” with enthusiasm, creating a happy atmosphere that permeated the entire event. He also reported Black Forest messenger from Birgit Bech, who led the service, who prayed a psalm with the children and thanked them for two wonderful weeks full of new and old friendships.

The children enjoyed a varied program that promoted creativity and a sense of community. For many people in particular, the story time about Samuel and David was an unforgettable experience. Filea, a popular character, also returned and was enthusiastically welcomed by the children. At this special community celebration, children were encouraged to appreciate the little things in life and to pray for those who were less fortunate. The event ended with the farewell song “God, your good blessing,” which resonated with everyone present for a long time.

A look at the future

The second Waldheim camp will begin next week and will certainly give the participants just as much fun. In addition, next year will mark the 70th birthday of the holiday camp, which is certainly a reason for further celebration and to look back on many wonderful years.

From the home in the heart to the international diplomat

In a completely different context, the story of Kurt Waldheim continues to preoccupy people. Born Austrian on December 21, 1918 in Sankt Andrä-Wördern, he was an important politician and diplomat who served as Secretary General of the United Nations from 1972 to 1981 and held the office of Austrian President from 1986 to 1992. With his finger on the pulse of international politics every day, he also managed to overcome major challenges, such as crisis management in several crisis areas around the world. Details about Waldheim's impressive career can be found at, among others Wikipedia and Britannica.

But his life was not without controversy: during his presidency there were allegations surrounding his participation in World War II. Contemporary witnesses and documents show that Waldheim seemed to know more about what happened than he admitted in his autobiography. Despite these charges, an international investigation cleared Waldheim of complicity in war crimes, but this could not prevent him from being considered persona non grata in many countries, including the United States. Waldheim's legacy remains characterized by light and shadow, and the debate about Austrian history during the Second World War remains a sensitive topic.
