Dortmund overruns Neckarsulm: 38:26 – The mood of crisis is growing!

The game between Sport-Union Neckarsulm and Borussia Dortmund on November 11, 2025 in the Ballei sports hall was a real handball festival, but with a clear favorite. Borussia Dortmund clearly prevailed with 38:26 and thus consolidated its place in the upper third of the table in the women's handball Bundesliga.

The game started dynamically and Paulina Uscinowicz scored the first goal for Neckarsulm. But the joy didn't last long as Dortmund quickly took command. Alieke van Maurik and Kelly Vollebregt gave Dortmund the lead with their double strikes, and they moved ahead to a comfortable lead of 16:10 by the 23rd minute. The half-time score of 20:15 reflected the superiority of the guests, who primarily benefited from strong defense. As WDR reports, Neckarsulm was unable to close the defensive line and was often forced into time play.

Lack of relief for Neckarsulm

Despite an initial rebellion in the second half, when Neckarsulm showed clearer offensive approaches, Dortmund always had the right answer ready. Johanna Fossum in the Neckarsulm goal simply couldn't find the access to turn the game around. While Dortmund pulled away with eight goals in the 38th minute, Neckarsulm fought desperately, but it quickly became clear that Dortmund were firmly in control. Dortmund were strong defensively and only conceded one goal between the 42nd and 52nd minutes. In this phase, the first goal was scored by Guro Nestaker to make it 33:23, which ultimately decided the game.

With 1,211 spectators in the hall, the mood was divided: While the Dortmund fans cheered, the Sport-Union supporters could only shake their heads. Coach Thomas Zeitz was visibly dissatisfied with the performance of his team, which now has to accept its second defeat in a row. Their next game is against TuS Metzingen on December 27th after the World Cup break is approaching.

Looking ahead to the next challenges

The Champions League continues for Borussia Dortmund on November 16th when they face Gloria Bistrita. This additional burden could provide an exciting strategic outlook for the rest of the season, especially considering that the win against Neckarsulm represents an important step towards consolidating third place in the table. Dual utilization could prove to be the key to success.

The game's referees, Nico and Leon Barmann, had no major problems to deal with and only awarded two penalty minutes to both teams. For the spectators, it was an entertaining but one-sided handball game that impressively demonstrated Borussia Dortmund's dominance. The coming period will show whether Neckarsulm is able to flip the switch in time to get back on the road to success.
