New chopping site in Schwaigern-Stetten: 2.8 million euros for energy!
Today, November 7th, 2025, the course is set for waste management in the Heilbronn district. The planned new construction of the chopping site in the Schwaigern-Stetten disposal center will be launched with an investment of 2.8 million euros. The existing chopping area must be abandoned because the old part is being shut down. The operating license is valid until April 2027. This will make this location a safe and efficient center for the collection and recycling of green waste throughout the district.
In 2024, around 26,000 tons of organic waste and 29,000 tons of tree and hedge cuttings were collected in the Heilbronn district. The resulting energy of 23.7 million kilowatt hours is enough to supply almost 4,000 people with electricity and district heating. Another important point is hygiene: In order to kill harmful microorganisms, hygienization of wet green waste is urgently required.
The new requirements and challenges
The new requirements and necessary investments, especially for the chopping areas, are making the Heilbronn district take action. The chopping site in Schwaigern-Stetten will be built on an area of 42 ares and will be equipped with a wastewater canal. Contaminants such as stones, garbage and plastic are not permitted on the chopping sites to ensure the quality of the green waste. These places are not only fenced in, but also have fixed opening times to ensure smooth operation.
Private households can give away tree, shrub and hedge trimmings free of charge. Containers or trailers are also available from March to December to make delivery even easier. In total, there are 13 locations in the Hohenlohe district that have collected 12,000 tons of green waste. This shows that waste management in the Heilbronn district has a very solid foundation.
Funding and financing plan
In order to finance the new construction of the chopping yard in Schwaigern-Stetten, funding of 40 percent from funds from the national climate protection initiative is sought. The total costs are 2.84 million euros, although a possible cost increase of ten percent is also taken into account. The financing has already been secured in the economic plan and the district's medium-term financial planning, so that the tendering and awarding of the services should take place soon.
With these measures, the Heilbronn district will not only take a significant step in waste management, but will also make its contribution to energy generation and climate protection. Innovative solutions and clear guidelines are the key to sustainable use of resources and waste.
