Leclerc triumphs in training: accidents overshadowed Silverstone!
During the final practice session for the British Grand Prix in Silverstone, Ferrari's Charles Leclerc impressively set the fastest time, putting himself in a promising position for Sunday's race. His time of 1:25.498 was clearly superior to all others. Oscar Piastri from McLaren and the well-known defending champion Max Verstappen from Red Bull completed the podium, taking second and third place in the final standings. Another high-flyer is Lando Norris, who also drives for McLaren and is showing strong performances this season. Particularly noteworthy: Piastri leads the overall standings with a 15-point lead over Norris, while Verstappen is far behind in third place - a full 61 points behind Piastri, as ka-news reports.
Conditions during practice were a little more complicated than on previous sunny days, with partly cloudy and cooler temperatures posing challenges for the riders. Wind also played a big role and caused some difficulties, as seen with Aston Martin's Lance Stroll. Hamilton, who had already celebrated nine victories at Silverstone, was also on course for a record and had set the fastest lap at the beginning, but had to abort his lap due to a piece of debris on the track.
Serious accidents during training sessions
The training session was not only marked by outstanding times, but also by two accidents. Gabriel Bortoleto, driving for Kick Sauber, lost control of his vehicle shortly before the end and landed in the gravel, causing the front suspension to break. Oliver Bearman from Haas also caused a stir when he collided with the track barrier while entering the pit lane. This led to red flags and interrupted the process, as formula1.com adds.
Although Hamilton ultimately only finished 11th and his teammates didn't do particularly well either, anticipation for the race remains high. Mercedes has had a lot of trouble this season, while the competition in the form of Leclerc, Piastri and Norris is getting stronger. Ferrari's leading role this year brings a breath of fresh air to the championship and makes fans' hearts beat faster.
Formula 1 fever in Germany
Not only is Great Britain an important location for Formula 1, but Germany also shows great passion for motorsport. According to Statista, around 6.5 million people in Germany have a strong interest in this sport. The viewer numbers are promising - in 2024, an average of 1.5 million fans tuned in to watch the exciting races live. The atmosphere will also be electric at Silverstone, not least because of the crowd response that drives the drivers.
Let's hope for a thrilling racing weekend, full of excitement and possibly new records. The next few hours leading up to the race could be nerve-wracking for the drivers as they prepare for the challenges of Silverstone. Whether Charles Leclerc can confirm his form remains to be seen - the whole world is excited to see what the 2025 season has in store.
