Save the partridge: Excursion in Schefflenztal on July 26th!
Is the partridge on the verge of extinction? Not at all, if the Schefflenztal Partridge Protection Initiative has its way! The volunteer nature conservationists, farmers, hunters, nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts have been working for years to preserve this magnificent bird species, which is in acute danger of extinction. Particularly in the Schefflenz region in the Neckar-Odenwald district, there are still the last habitats of the partridge, which has the most significant occurrence in the Karlsruhe administrative district. As the rp.baden-wuerttemberg.de Reportedly, the first chicks were recently spotted, giving hope for an upward trend.
The initiative invites you to an excursion on July 26, 2025. True to the motto “Enjoy nature”, anyone interested can stroll through the area in the Rittersbacher Heimental with experienced conservationists from 3 p.m. Topics include the care of hedges and what is needed for an optimal partridge habitat. If you want to take part, you should pack sturdy shoes and a sturdy jacket. Binoculars are also recommended to observe the beauties of nature.
Strong together for the field bird
The Partridge Protection Schefflenztal initiative was launched in 2021 and unites a broader community with a common motivation: the love of nature and the responsibility to preserve the partridge in the cultural landscape. This passion is reflected in the diverse forms of engagement, which include creating habitats, monitoring and public relations. Mindfulness training in dealing with nature is also an important part of the project in order to raise awareness of how important the protection of partridges is for the entire agricultural environment. The rebhuhn-schefflenztal.de Platform describes the special efforts of those involved, which include not only hunters and farmers, but also bird watchers and nature lovers.
With a dramatic decline of 94 percent of partridge populations in Europe since 1980, and the classification as “endangered” in Germany's Red List of breeding birds, such initiatives are more important than ever. The project “Save Partridge – Promote Diversity!” has set itself the task of networking relevant actors - an approach that has proven to be particularly effective, as the news from bfn.de show.
Biodiversity in focus
The project has a clear focus: counteracting the decline in biodiversity in agricultural landscapes. The protective measures for the partridge, which is considered an indicator species for a diverse and species-rich agricultural landscape, not only benefit the bird species itself. They also support other species, such as flower-visiting insects and various agricultural birds. Collaboration with universities and nature conservation associations also plays an important role in this future-oriented approach.
The Partridge Protection Schefflenztal initiative makes it clear: there is something to be said about preserving nature and biodiversity - and everyone can help, be it through dialogue, commitment or simply through a joint excursion to discover the beauty of the partridge and their habitats!
