Lörrach cycles again: 78,179 kilometers collected for the climate!

Lörrach, Deutschland - For the city of Lörrach, participation in this year's city bike was a remarkable journey into the pedals. For the twelfth time, the municipality took part in this nationwide competition and was able to cycle 78,179 kilometers. This is the third best result since the first application in 2012. Nevertheless, the number of kilometers was below the previous year's value of 86,419 kilometers. The competition took place this year from May 18 to June 7th and moved 453 participants, who organized themselves in 38 teams and saved around 12 tons of CO₂. Mayor Monika Neuhöfer-Avdić was completely satisfied with the response and praised the committed participation.

A special highlight was the “Kieneetic” team, which had the highest number of kilometers per member, namely an impressive 2,068 kilometers with only two members. Karl Preßmar was no less remarkable, who, as the best retailer from the “Baptist Lörrach” team with 1,535 kilometers. At the schools, the Free Evangelical School proved to be the most active facility and built a total of 15,262 kilometers. The Neumattschule won the mileage price per member with an average of 176 kilometers.

Another step to support cycling in the region is shown in the installation of three new bike service stations by ADAC Südbaden e.V. These stations are placed in highly frequented places: one in Lörrach, one in Schönau and the third in Maulburg, which has covered the highest number of kilometers per inhabitant. The exact locations are determined in consultation with the municipalities.

The overall placement of Lörrach in the competition is expected to be announced after the campaign was completed on September 30, 2025. It turns out that city cycling is not only a competition, but also an opportunity to improve the cycling infrastructure and to raise awareness of environmentally friendly means of transport. This not only promotes climate protection, but also significantly increases the quality of life in the region.
