Aviation festival in Pleidelsheim: aerobatic highlight delights visitors!
Today, August 24, 2025, things are going high! With bright weather and only light winds, the aerobatic pilots at the upcoming flying festival in Pleidelsheim don't have to wait long. So far, 2,500 to 3,000 visitors are expected to gather on the meadow to watch the impressive performances high in the sky. A very special highlight will be the aerobatics of Christian Hartmann, who will perform between two regular flights and demonstrate his flying skills. Hartmann shares his knowledge of the forces and movements during his loops with the audience and particularly inspires the youngest children, who try to conquer the skies with their own small flying machines. Passion is very important here!
The conditions for flying couldn't be better - in contrast to the oppressive temperatures of recent years, today's milder wind provides ideal conditions. Hartmann, who has been in the aviation business for over 30 years and only started flying later in life, has an important message: There is no age limit for starting flying, just like his father, who started flying at the age of 72. Many of his club colleagues are also starting to make this childhood dream come true shortly before retirement. However, Hartmann warns: Flying can quickly become an addiction, people are so drawn to the sky.
News from the competition scene
Aerobatic aviation has already caused a stir in Germany in the last few weeks. Exciting competitions were held at the German Motor Aerobatic Championships, which took place in Dinslaken from June 26th to 29th. Moritz Kirchberg was named the best German in the Advanced category, while Marcus Extra took home the title in the Unlimited Final Freestyle category. Despite unfavorable weather conditions, including rain and low clouds, the pilots performed impressively. According to Joachim Weinbrenner, press spokesman for the German Aerobatic Association, the good organization and discipline were particularly important for the smooth running of the competition.
The championships were held in various categories, although it is noteworthy that only two of the planned three rounds could take place in the advanced class. A failure partly due to weather, which increased the challenge for the pilots.
Creativity in flying
Under the umbrella of the Acro-IMAC Germany department, innovative competition formats are located that take the flair of aerobatics to a new level. This organization, which is dedicated to true-to-life aerobatics, offers many opportunities for aviation enthusiasts to demonstrate their skills with its competition series, such as the IMAC German Cup and the IMAC Eurocup. The competitions are divided into different levels of difficulty, allowing both beginners and experienced pilots to take part according to their abilities.
A highlight of the competition is the special freestyle class, in which participants present their own four-minute choreography to music. To be more precise, it's not just about technical perfection, but also about creativity and show. This not only makes the pilots happy, but also attracts numerous spectators!
As you can see, aviation dreams are coming to life in Germany and especially in the region around Cologne. Whether at the aviation festival or in competition – the passion for flying connects generations and ensures unforgettable experiences.
