Steffen Albrecht from Ludwigsburg celebrated his 60th birthday in a very special way: by taking part in the 200-mile race (320 kilometers) called Unbound Gravel in Kansas. The day was a complete success as Albrecht only needed 14 hours and 19 minutes to complete the route, including two short breaks of ten minutes each. After 50 years in the sport, which also includes swimming and triathlon, the 60-year-old has now made plans to take part in similar gravel events in Europe in the future. Before that, however, he has a vacation in Mongolia with his wife, where he would like to enjoy shorter mountain bike tours.

To take part in the Unbound Gravel, Albrecht secured a starting place through a lottery, which required a participation fee of 350 US dollars. The event itself is one of the highest-profile gravel races in the world and allows cyclists to test their endurance and skills on unpaved trails.
