Traffic chaos in Strohgäu: mega construction sites cause traffic jams!

The construction situation on the streets in Strohgäu and around the Leonberger triangle remains tense. Motorists should expect extensive traffic disruptions in the coming weeks. The construction work between Gerlingen and Leonberg, which was originally supposed to be completed on schedule, is now facing unexpected delays. As the Stuttgart News reported that the end of the construction work was postponed by two weeks. Completion in Gerlingen is now expected at the end of October, with the road between Leonberg and Gerlingen expected to be passable again in November.

The reasons for the delays include water pipe work and additional empty pipe laying for Netze BW. At the same time, construction is also underway at the Stuttgart-Feuerbach motorway junction, which further complicates the traffic situation. The current construction site concerns the B 295 between the intersection of Herdweg, Weilimdorfer Straße and Siemensstraße and the intersection of B 295, Flachter and Gerlinger Straße. Here, the Stuttgart regional council is renewing the road surface and closing sections of the B 295.

Extensive construction work on the B 295

Construction work on the B 295 began on October 2, 2025 and is expected to be completed by October 31, 2025. This is responsible for this renovation work Stuttgart Regional Council. During construction work, traffic will be redirected in sections and there will be restrictions.

In total, two main construction phases will be carried out:

  • Bauabschnitt 1: Vom 2.

It is particularly important to pay attention to the restrictions on the access ramps to the A 81: These are fully closed until October 19th and the access ramps until October 21st. Turning from the A 81 onto the B 295 in the direction of Ditzingen is not possible during the entire work, only in the direction of Stuttgart.

Investments and challenges in road construction

In Germany, the roads are in need of renovation, which became apparent, among other things, after the tragic collapse of the Carola Bridge in Dresden in 2024, according to an analysis by Statista. In order to improve the infrastructure, the federal government has put together a renovation package worth around 500 billion euros. Against this background, the pressure on the local construction sites is increasing, especially on the comprehensive renovation and renewal projects.

Investments in road construction are increasing nationwide, with over 14 billion euros being implemented in 2024. The profession of road construction is one of the most popular apprenticeships in civil engineering and currently employs more than 80,000 people. These figures make it clear how important a solid road infrastructure is for transport connections in Germany.

Motorized road users in the region should therefore prepare well so as not to fall victim to the construction sites. Hand on heart: a little patience and flexibility won't hurt until the roads are in perfect condition again!
