Hildegardisfest in Rüdesheim: celebratory procession and top-class guests!
A very special festival is celebrated in the heart of Rüdesheim-Eibingen: the Hildegardisfest, which is organized by the parish of St. Borromäus Breuberg. On this occasion, the community cordially invites everyone interested to come along on August 17, 2025 and take part in the celebrations. The festivities begin with a solemn high mass at 10 a.m. in front of the pilgrimage church, the preacher of which will be Auxiliary Bishop Leo Wagener from Luxembourg. This special service is just the start of a day full of spiritual and community highlights.
Another central point of the festival will be the veneration of relics, which will take place at 12 p.m. This pays homage to the remains of Saint Hildegard of Bingen, an influential figure of the Middle Ages who is known for her visionary writings and musical compositions. Hildegard was born around 1098 and during her life she founded the monastic communities in Disibodenberg and Eibingen and wrote a large number of theological works that are still important today, as Wikipedia reports.
Procession and speech
After the veneration of the relics, there will be an impressive procession that leads through Eibingen and the picturesque vineyards to St. Hildegard Abbey. This tradition not only symbolizes the connection with St. Hildegard, but also brings the community together. At 3 p.m. Sr. Dr. Raphaela Brüggenthies OSB, the prioress of St. Hildegard Abbey, gives a celebratory address for the relic celebration. She will focus on Hildegard's life and legacy and encourage listeners to think about their own spirituality.
Arrival and gastronomic offerings
If you want to take part in the celebrations, you should arrange your arrival in good time. The departure times from the various stops are set: At 7 a.m. the bus starts from the Kath. Kirche Neustadt, followed by further departures at the Sparkasse Hainstadt and in Mömlingen. Access in Pflaumheim or Großostheim is also possible. There is a pro-rata cost for the ride, but this gives you the opportunity to take part in a one-off event.
A special highlight of the festival is the gastronomic offer in the rectory, which is provided during lunch. Here, visitors can not only enjoy the delicious food, but also experience community and exchange with other celebrations.
Registration lists are available in the parish churches in Neustadt and Mömlingen for everyone who would like to take part in the event. Further information about registration is available by calling 06165-741 or 06022-31457. The Hildegardisfest promises to be a significant and unforgettable experience that keeps alive the spiritual and cultural connection to St. Hildegard of Bingen, whose feast day falls on September 17th.
