Headmaster Dornbluth is leaving: Who will be his successor at WHG?
The Wilhelm-Hausenstein-Gymnasium (WHG) in Durmersheim is facing drastic change: Thomas Dornblüth, headmaster for 14 years, is giving up his position. Due to his long-standing commitment, his planned retirement is expected on July 31, 2026. This decision was recently announced in the district committee for schools and culture. The headteacher left a mark on the school during his term of office and his departure will certainly be a mark in school life.
The application process for his successor has already begun, with the position of headmaster being advertised. It is interesting that school management positions in the Rastatt district are apparently less sought after. For example, the Tulla-Gymnasium in Rastatt was only able to find a suitable successor after two rounds of tendering. For the WHG, the process is led by the Karlsruhe Regional Council, with the Rastatt district being represented on the selection committee, which plays a decisive role in the election of the new school principal.
The number of students remains constant
The introduced return to the nine-year high school (G9) appears to have had no significant impact on the number of students at the WHG. There are currently 670 students enrolled, which represents a slight decrease of two students compared to the previous year. 91 children in the entrance classes attend the high school and are looking forward to the new beginning of the 2022/23 school year, which starts without Corona restrictions.
The new fifth graders will start school on Tuesday, September 13th, at 3:00 p.m. The new students are ceremonially welcomed in several groups. Parents will receive a separate invitation by email. To the delight of the community, the timetable for the first day of school is also published via WebUntis. Classes 6 to 10 start in the 2nd hour at 8:35 a.m., while the course level starts in the 3rd or 4th hour. Break sales and cafeteria operations also begin operations at the beginning of the school year.
A comprehensive succession process
The new school principal is selected through a comprehensive and regulated selection process. After the assessment process has been completed, the application documents of all candidates will be sent to the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport. These documents include personnel files and professional assessments, from which the selection committee will develop a suitable proposal. This commission is made up of representatives from the ministry, the responsible RLSB (regional council) and the school authority, who are intended to ensure that only the best of the best are available for selection.
The entire procedure is clearly regulated and ensures that severely disabled applicants also receive special consideration. The selection committee also has the opportunity to invite selected applicants to personal interviews, which increases the chance of a fair and well-founded decision.
Overall, it remains to be seen how the appointments at the WHG will develop and who will ultimately succeed Thomas Dornblüth. What is certain is that his farewell is associated with many memories and accompanies the school community into a new era.
